I will try an older firmware tomorrow!
Now using 1.9.2.7-7g
Why not using the newest firmware?
wengi
I am now using 1.9.2.7-7f with FTP enabled and it works again.
I will upgrade to 1.9.2.7-7g tonight also with FTP enabled. But you prescribe to dissable FTP, strange that it doesn't work. I'm happy with this option. My mission is to have a NZB Newsgroup download server and Torrent download server with my Asus router
1.9.2.7-7g is the newest one for WL 500g routers, isn't it?
Nope  1.9.2.7-9
http://oleg.wl500g.info/
wengi
aha ok, i see, i have to learn to read better :P
I thought this how to was the same as in march, but it's up-to-date to the latest firmware.
Very nice Wengi, it's working now! Thanx for the support
First of all: linux-knowledge is probably below average.. i learnt most of it using this tutorial and the freesco router I used to have.. so if my questions are rather stupid.. excuse me
Because my HD was going crazy at times I decided to install the swap and opt on an USB-stick.. now this one will eventually wear out.. and that is my concern: would there be any way for me to backup the /opt so I could just insert a new USB-stick in the future such that all settings remain the same?
(also: a 2nd question. I did this yesterday.. and since I used this tutorial I now had 3 partitions on my harddisk
1: [previous] swap
2: [previous] opt
3: harddisk
When trying to mount the harddisk to the actual /tmp/harddisk in Fstab I failed. The device just mounted everything to disc0_1 etc. when I ran mount -a it was fine - that is the harddisk (discx_3) was actually mounted on /tmp/harddisk.. however this solution did not sound good to me so I just deleted partitions 1 and 2.. which did the trick.
Is there any way to actually mount that partition using fstab?)
Hi,
backing up /opt is simply copying the files with 'cp'. Maybe you should stop the services running from /opt before. It is not a boot partition, so no need to image it.
swap does not need to be backed up.
Mounting is working fine for me as it is described in the howto.
it mounts to disk0_3 and creates a symbolic link at /tmp/harddisk.
so no prob at all.
wengi
it's still working good!!
Hi!
First Thanx for the great tutorial! I've folowed all your instructions and everything works just fine. But now I have a little problem.
I've installed transmission with ipkg. After reboot I tryed to start transmission with the command transmission_watchdog but no command like that in my distro. I'm using WL500gp V1 oleg 1.9.2.7-9.
I've had problems with 1.9.2.7-10, it won't connect my ISP sometimes for some reason, but this version works just fine for me.
Please help!
Hello Wengi,
what can i do?
All worked perfect, my Transmission was working great!!
Till, for 3 hours ago, i saw my Transmission was not downloading / uploading any torrent.
i was thinking it was possible, but after 15 minutes, still no change!
Before that he was working great for about 1 month, i guess..
Now, i thought, i will reboot the router, so he will start all the stuff again, and it would be working again.
Problem..
When i go to my http://192.168.1.1:8008/cgi-bin/transmission.cgi
He couldn't find the page
Ok, i started putty, and logged in, ( yeah, i am in the root of the router )
i think the problem is, he cannot mount the HDD.
before that i could find my hdd with ( windows network places )
so, i think it is not the HDD
but before i enter this :)
i thought i will check before i press Enter
i
The HDD was turned on. ( i saw the blue led was burning )
I turned off the router, after that i turned off the HDD,
I turned on the HDD. But now, I hear he is going on, but after 20 seconds, i give a flash (<- the led is going on, and off.) And i hear the noise is going away, so he turned off.
Maybe is my HDD the problem, i don't hope so, i have much stuff on it, i would keep...
Maybe you can tell me what's the problem
thanks for the help

================================================== ========
Solve some problems, but...
i solved the problem with the HDD,
the power problem was solved.
i tested it without connecting the usb cable.
and if i do that, the power light is flashing blue, and the hdd goes off.
now i can connect cgi-bin/transmission.cgi
i will see the screen, but he is not uploading or downloading,
when i push a torrent, i will see the next text:
/opt/share/www/cgi-bin/transmission.cgi: kill: 9: (3373) - No such process
i will look if i can find a answer to solve this problem.
if you can tell it my, i will thank you for that.

Maybe i am a stupid usesr ;P
but offcourse, i have to push pause first, after that push watchdog, and now he is checking files.
Still my question is there, why he was stopping uploading and downloading, but i think now he is working agian.
( it is possible i am stupid, but now i solved it myself, not because i have a great knowledge, but by trying something.)

I have a very simple question. Is wireless client working properly on the latest fw??
I tried a lot of configs and I didn't manage to get it working.
access point mode.
same ssid and same encryption (wpa2 +aes)
extended mode (ethernet bridge and station)
Does anyone have the correct configuration for this to work?

Hey Wengi,Quote:

wengi
not it isn't well now..
i have a strange thing. maybe you can give me the answer!?? ..: i hope :..
the whole evening my torrents are standing
Checking files... 12.68 % Start: 24 Aug 14:17 End: 25 Aug 22:42 uploaded:
also when i push a Queued torrent he will tell me:
Checking files... 0.00 % Start: 25 Aug 23:07 uploaded: 0.0 MB
but, after 1 hour, he will give me the same information.
i cannot push it, because the torrent has to be suspended. So the only thing is to remove the torrent. ( but i won't remove it )
What can i do?
Hope you can give me a answer.
@all.
Have a look at http://wl500g.info/showthread.php?t=15562
Transmission was splitted into two packages.
i am still using an old version and did not upgrade.
Maybe i will do some research to solve your probs. But this will take some days.
The main question: Will we use transmission or transmissiond in future?
The transmission we know until now is called transmissiond in future. (Version 1.22 atm)
The new transmission (Version 1.33 atm) comes with clutch as webinterface
wengi
Is there any client that can select files in torrent?
I think what he ment is:
when you are using a client like bitcomet, you can select wich files to download from the torrent.
torrents can describe multiple files (as you probably know), so sometimes you only want to download a small file, and not all the files, wich would take hours:p
after an upgrade/update from 1.22 to 1.33 transmission went bad:
"Connection Interrupted
The connection to the server was reset while the page was loading.
The network link was interrupted while negotiating a connection. Please try again."
how I fix this thing?
Hi wengi, when can we expect an update to your how-to using the new transmission package? thanks!
dear wengi,
would you be so kind add your tutorial , installing mediatomb media server ,I've been trying to install from another thread http://www.wl500g.info/showthread.php?t=13963 , but have no luck allways get error " terminate called after throwing an instance of 'zmm::Exception' ".
thx

@zexe
You should have read at least the last few posts:
http://wl500g.info/showpost.php?p=109189&postcount=379
@terabyte
I will wait until oleo finished the changes.
Until then i will use the transmissiond package in the howtos.
@hdmovie
Sorry, but i will only add things to the howto if i am using them myself.
This is the only way to give a good support.
No media server on my wl-hdd means no media server in the howto.
You will have to use other howtos in this board.
wengi
if i want to turnoff the hdd, is there any step i must do? and when i turn it on again?
how to download from a direct link?
tq
Do a forum search for hdd spindown.
with wget. 'wget http://www......'
wengi
Hi, I believe this is option is standard available. But, if you use the hdd for swap and/or have cron installed (which accesses the hdd every minute) the hdd doesn't have any 'inactive' time so it won't spin down. Also, from what I read from the forum is that the WiFi WLAN function causes hdd-access so it won't spin down when WLAN is enabled.
anyway, the following link should provide information: http://wlhdd.co.uk/wiki/HDD_Standby
code: (for spindown after 10 minutes)

Hi,
I already installed Oleg, before I was using OpenWRT on my Asus wl500gp.
All works fine for me,but I have problem with permissions to /opt dir.
the same or similar when I trying:Quote:
[root@WL-001BFC918B60 root]$ mkdir -p /opt/tmp
mkdir: Cannot create directory `/opt/tmp': Read-only file system
- mkdir -p /opt/tmp
- ipkg.sh install ipkg-opt
- mkdir /opt/tmp
I searched the web with google and I can't find any solution when I'm not using an external usb-hdd. I want to install ipkg, mc, nano, iptraf and maybe 4 apps more - I don't need usb-hdd.... I think ;)
Quote:

none on /dev type devfs (rw)
proc on /proc type proc (rw)
ramfs on /tmp type ramfs (rw)

thanks for your time :)Quote:

no usb-hdd no /opt, so I can't use ipkg and many other features...:(
It's the way to buy a usb-hdd :D

Your original post-boot with the two lines is ok. Delete the rest again.
