Unhappy Files and dirs 'lost'. Please help!

    Hi all..

Right now I'm experiencing strange and frightening behaviour !

I have my data partition mounted at /mnt
This morning all was fine.. could access all my files.

    Right now,
I can access some directories.. some don't even show up in windows (samba) and some dir's show up as file.

In SSH, I can see the contents of /mnt.
when I issue dir command I can see a folder cms
when I try to go to the folder with cd cms it gives me an error: -sh: cd: can't cd to cms like it is non-existing.
I also have this with a music and movies directory.

When I issue df command I can see my 500gb disk is filled for 70% so the data must be there.

Is my partition corrupt or something ? and if so.. how can I fix these things?
aprox. 300gb of data on the disk which I don't want to loose.. (sure I have backups, but it would take me a lot of time to do it.. )

Is there anything I can do?
    please help...

    Talking All back.

    Hi.

I have rebooted a couple off times. but that didn't work..

I then took the power off.

disconnected the usb-drive and the flash-drive.

put the power on.. let it boot.
took the power off. connected the usb-devices.

    put the power back on..

Boot and everything is fine.. I can access all my files again..

    Weird..

    I never had this...

Someone know what's going on ?

I had a similar behavior, really strange, I was shocked, because yesterday I stored about 400MB important data to my hdd and no backup!

Then I read that the usb-hdd must be ready before router booting.
OK, then it was clear - no way to unplug just the power cord with the junction (router & HDD) and plug it in again. Sometimes my router seems to be faster as my hdd = error

When I plug in at first the HDD and after a few seconds my router, it works perfect.

    Well.

It occured while it was running..
not after a boot or something..
    really strange..

I los 4 GIG movies after unmounting a hdd!
With normal umount command it wont work, and when i tried umount -f all data was lost

Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on
    /dev/scsi/host1/bus0/target0/lun0/part1
    193G 129M 183G 1% /tmp/extdisk/disk1
    /dev/scsi/host1/bus0/target0/lun0/part2
    174G 129M 165G 1% /tmp/extdisk/disk2
    /dev/scsi/host1/bus0/target0/lun0/part3
    1.1T 1.1T 0 100% /tmp/extdisk/ntfs
    /dev/scsi/host1/bus0/target0/lun0/part4
    46G 198M 46G 1% /tmp/extdisk/fat32
    /dev/scsi/host0/bus0/target0/lun0/part7
    44G 129M 41G 1% /tmp/disk1/movie

And what it is really funny is, that on part7, part4, part2, part1 (host1) nothing is stored!
The Used things are the indices. But Why is (example part7) 44G Avail, 129 M used and free is 41G?!? What happens with the 2.7GIG?
And the same on part4, part2, part1 (dont recognize the ntfs part3 with 1.1T this is a bug with ntfs).
And the filesystem is ext3 except of the ntfs and fat32 partition...

So the warning while booting the router might be true indeed:

    Code:
    Initializing USB Mass Storage driver...
    usb.c: registered new driver usb-storage

Well, i have this warning too
This is really stupid! One time, my fs (ext3) was destroyed, but i was able to recover it..

But the last time i wasnt able to do it

But, when you say df -h, do you have the same output like me? (that on avail more than 1 % is missing?)

And again one partition is delete on startup (and some directories from an other partition).

Well this is the 2nd time, my move partition is lost (now i think it was around ~ 5gig movies recorded with dbox).

Why the hell is the data lost?!?! Thats not normal, it was 1.4GIG and they are gone like it was never there before.. (at the first time it was ~4gig)..

And one folder and subfolders from my ftp directory is also gone, where i had 500MB of files...

How the hell can you configure that crappy ext2 so, that it doenst want to recover anything, because i had this on my dmesg:
    EXT3 FS 2.4-0.9.19, 19 August 2002 on sd(8,5), internal journal
    EXT3-fs: recovery complete.
    The date is strange toooo

I was very happy with the nfs asus 500 solution, but i got more and more angry with it...
