I tell you this because i hate coolers (noise, dust, consumption), i've got a EPI I7-640UM (Dual 1.20GHZ) and a C2D-P9500 (Dual 2.5GHZ) "routers" without coolers (full passive cooling) machines that copy 125mb/s in the network, so i don't think RT-N16 needs one...
