iSCSI funtionality

Hello everyone,

I was wondering is there a iSCSI solution for the WL500G , seems that HP is about to release an iSCSI variant of the MSA1500 , i just want to connect this box to my router. Can anybody shed some light into the darkness.

(Netapp is nice but its without any security)

I do am aware that the WL500G is slow.
But why is everyone allways making the assumption that iSCSI is allways somewhat linked to NAS.
The defenition of NAS is that its based on fileserving. (instead of blockserving on typical SAN arrays)

So what I only want to know if theres an iSCSI package for the WL500G.
Just to have some fun to hook up a LUN of 2TB on the WL500G.

Allready played a lot with the iSCSI variant and i must say its an easy box to configure.

My point was not that iSCSI is NAS, but that it's damn slow, and NAS performance is easy to measure. This should give you overall idea for performance. I'm wonder of using iSCSI with 1.3MB/s transfers max... It's something like putting the money to the trash basket. Probably you got 2TB for free?
And NO, no packages for iSCSI is available as it makes no sense other than fun.

Currently testing a new iSCSI box (will be released somewhere 2nd half of this year) (Doing that as a part of my job)
Currently have 12 TB in the testsetup (Scalable up to 24 TB), just playing around with the thing hooking it up to Mikkisoft/HPUx/RedHat/and more.
(1st shown at ENSA 2005 in Copenhagen)

Just making some fun out of it. Maybe i should buy a netapp box someday to do some testing to see wether its usefull in Enterprise SAN's.

iSCSI isnt that slow depends on the infrastructure that you are using when you are hooking up a iSCSI device on 1Gbit its about 60 to 70% of the speed of classic FC. True its slower but it isnt "slow". Its getting very slow when you are running youre iSCSI box over public network. This is the typical mistake that is being made by several end users. You even can lower your normal ethernet traffic to allmost 0%.
So when running it on a dedicated (private) ethernet its running fine.

We all still have to wait for 10Gbit ethernet , when you're running iSCSI over dedicated 10Gbit then its fast enough. (still to expensive )

BTW did a test with a 2TB lun with iSCSI over WiFi (using the WL500G).
Works fine but its to slow for corperate use. You get normal transfer rate as if you are sending data over 802.11G.

I know, that iSCSI target feature will no be implemented. But what about iSCSI Initiator? Can it be compiled for ASUS ?
