    sorry, I have to clarify.

    If you open the case, you'll find not soldered 8 pin connector (in case of wl500gPv1) with description on board. For system console you need rx0/tx0/gnd/3.3V

    Then you need level converter. Router encodes 0 and 1 as 0 and 3.3V and a standard PC com port has -12/+12V logic. If you do it yourself --- look on www.maxim-ic.com for datasheet on max3232 (or max232 --- it is 5V converter, but it works with asus for me pretty well). You'll need 1 chip and 5 capacitors. Then you connect to rs232-usb converter by null-modem cable:
    rx - tx
    tx - rx
    gnd-gnd

    Another option which people use is a cable from mobile phone (it can be com-level converter or even together with usb converter).
