Hostname is ok. No changes necessary. Only a reboot.

There sould be a line with xinetd if you do a "ps":

So your xinetd is NOT running.

Have a look at this:

There must be execute rights for the S10xinetd file. (-rwxr-xr-x).

Simply type "/opt/etc/init.d/S10xinetd". what happens? is it in ps now?
Post result of "cat /opt/etc/init.d/S10xinetd".
