    Apologies & help needed!

First off, I would like to apologise for my first ever thread, I was new, and I know thats no excuse, but I would like to say I have partly sorted out the prob, and have now got the printer to work with it..

I have followed the sprayfly.com/wiki guides to prepare the hard drive, file system snf automount up to the ipkg part, as it is not installed, so I follow http://www.sprayfly.com/wiki/Ipkg to the letter, copying and pasting in to make sure there are no mistakes, and all goes well until : ipkg.sh update, the errors I get are:

    Downloading http://wl500g.dyndns.org/ipkg/Packages ...
    wget: wl500g.dyndns.org: Unknown host
ipkg_download: ERROR: Failed to retrieve http://wl500g.dyndns.org/ipkg/Packages, returning
    ipkg_update: Error downloading http://wl500g.dyndns.org/ipkg/Packages to /opt/lib/ipkg/lists/wl500g

also, I can see the contents of the drive in WindowsXP, but I cant add or change files... I have tried everything!

I hope someone can help me as Im really getting into this now, and until ipkg is installed, I cant do much else

Thanks in advance for your time & help

Actually http://wl500g.dyndns.org/ipkg/Packages is working... Check if your router has working inet connection at all (as minimum try to ping something outside).

er, yeah I do have an internet connection as I am browsing here while i try, so I know I have an internet connection, I have even tried with just the WL-HDD ether-wired to my cable moned, but the outcome is the same

Is it cos I have the firewall on in the WL-HDD at all?

Have you set the default gateway in the LAN setup section?

As for your hard disk, what have you formatted it as (NTFS/FAT32/Ext) and are the permissions on the directories correct?

hi and thanks for the quick reply!

The HD was formatted via the config page of the ASUS, with the original firmware WLHDD_1.2.3.9_en installed, then when I upgraded to WLHDD-1.9.2.7-7g I followed the wiki guides to set up the EXT & the swapfile partitions, I can access the share bart in WInXP, but I cannot add or modify files, even though the permissions are set up, and in the LAN setup section, its 192.168.1.1, which is the IP address of my Linksts wireless router, is this what u mean?

well hopefully I'll have the solution real soon with the help of you!

    thanks to much

    actually, Ive made progress!
Was up till 5am this morning and I was up working on it from 10am, it now connects and downloads everything it needs, just 1 thing, trying to create the auto-mount stuff in Nano, but what dir & filename do I save it to please?

have tried: nano /usr/local/sbin/post-boot like described for the HD standby tut, but that didnt work and didnt auto-mount, still getting the /tmp/harddisk bit after every reboot, ive nearly cracked it, just a tiny way to go now, and thanks to you all!

EDIT: I might have got that bit sorted, hold tight a few mins and I will post back

    An Update:

well thanks for all the support guys ive finally cracked it!

I can now access the WiFi unit through any pc in my wireless network like a charm, only problem is ya have to re-enable the radio in the websettings after each reboot which is a pain, but oh well... cant have it all I guess!!
