    Fine thing!

    16MB Dram in one Chip (4 Banks x 1mb x 32bit), 4MB Flash, as Usual.
Looks like 500g without bridge chip and second ethernet device, but added Ide-controller (with raid 0/1 support!) on internal PCI-Bus.
Looks it has a good chance to become somthing better than just a Fileserver ...

Bought it yesterday, Mycom has it bundled with a 40 or 60 gig laptop HD.

It's a very cool device, but I'm having a hard time connecting it as a client to the wl-500g. Most of my network is wired, I only connect a laptop and pda wirelessly. What I'm trying to do is switch off AP functionality on the wl-hdd, and have it wirelessly connect as a client to the wl-500g so my wired network can see it (It works when I connect a network cable to the wl-hdd but that's no fun). The status log keeps saying "connecting".

Did anyone else buy this thing? I also have a weird problem with the config. When I launch the asus config utility it finds the hdd (but only when it's wired). This should open the browser based config, but that webpage is closed within 1 second? Like someone presses alt-f4 very fast. Luckily my e800 pda could connect to it directly so I could configure it.

same to me. You have to create a rule for the Popupblocker..in my case for the IE6/XP Pro+SP2.

I bought the WL-HDD today, but have no 2,5" HD at the moment to build in ;-)
Is there a custumized Firmware to login via telnet (the backdoor works) and is it possible to mount a USB-Stick directly? I woud like to act the WL-HDD beside the WL-Functions, as a NFS-Server (nfsv3) over LAN to record from a german 'DBox' (DVB-Receiver with Linux and ethernet). Do you think that's possible?
