Thread: Could not flash Oleg and OpenWRT firmware

  1. #1

Could not flash Asus wl-500g premium to Oleg or OpenWRT firmware, why?

    Dear All,

I try to flash my ASUS wl-500g Premium, from original firmware to Oleg. But flash to Oleg faild, then I try OpenWRT and also faild. I can only upgrade my Asus to DD-WRT firmware. I bought my router 2 weeks ago, maybe Asus made some restriction about flashing. Or maybe I am doing something wrong.

Every firmware I was flashing in the same way:

    Unplug power cable
    Press restore button
    Plug power cable
    Free restore button
Start Asus software to restore firmware with selected proper file
I see that firmware was flashing
When finished I wait a few minutes and then try to enter to Asus by web browser

    - OpenWRT do not work (Even I could not ping 192.168.1.1)
    - Oleg - when I enter 192.168.1.1 I see firmware for Asus Delux (strange)
    - DD-WRT works good

Please help because I would like to use other firmware than DD-WRT. Which is better and what is the correct way to flash it?

Maybe am I using wrong file?
"It is WL500gx-1.9.2.7-7e.zip (x stands for any letter, I guess)" I found this in turtorial, and I try WL500gx-1.9.2.7-7e.zip. Is it correct?

I would assume that you'd have to un zip the file first and flash it with the .trx file

I flash uzniped file with extension .trx

Oleg maybe you could help me with my problem? How to flash asus wl-500g using your firmware?

  5. #5
Did you try to flash using GUI?

    What is GUI?

I tried by TFTP client (falshed but router did not work), Web Interface (could not flash) and ASUS recovery tool (flashed but router did not work). I do not have any others ideas.

    Hi,

I've read somewhere that DD-WRT uses different nvram settings and when
changing back to original or Oleg fw, it confuses them. That can be
the problem. However, I don't know the solution.

Firstly I try OpenWRT, then Oleg and at the end DD-WRT. Always I firstly back to orginal firmware and then try other one firmware. Only DD-WRT works.

Hi, search other threads for details, but my process to flash FW is:

    - put box to recovery mode
    - tftp ...clear-nvram.trx (don't remebger exact name, but find it elsewhere)
    - after that power led is off -> wait cca. 3 minutes

    - put box to recovery mode
    - tftp ...recovery.trx (don't remebger exact name, but find it elsewhere)
    - after that power led is off -> wait cca. 3 minutes

    - put box to recovery mode
    - tftp your-FW.trx
    - after that power led is ON -> wait cca. 10-15 minutes
    - after power off/on ->

power off/on = wait cca. 10-15 sec before power on

I have to use this power off - on, because after tftping my router will not reboot itself ...

I can't use Firmware Restoration as it don't see my box, very nice Utility tools ASUS!

Probably I used wrong version of file. Now everything works fine. To flash PREMIUM I use that one http://oleg.wl500g.info/gp/.

    http://oleg.wl500g.info/gp/WL500gp-1.9.2.7-7f-pre8.trx

Now I know that this one is correct. But before I could not find this information on www. Maybe good idea to Oleg is create download link with all version available firmwares?
