    USB FTP access and speed

    Hello

I feel sure this is in here somewhere or there is a how to but here goes.

    I am running a WL500G

I have a SeaGate External 250gb drive. I hooked it up to my router and all worked fine be it a 300kbps rather than the 12 mbs I thought it should. Then I diconnected it hooked it up to the pc direct. I formated it split the drive so I had a non accessable bit to put secure backups on. When I hooked it back up to the router it no longer works as it did. I can view and down load the info off of the HDD but can not copy stuff to it.

    So my two questions are
    1. Why is the HDD gone to access denied with write permissions?
    and
    2. Why is it so slow? (I think I am right to say it has a USB 1.1)

Any ideas on tutorial thingy's will be greatfully received.

    Cheers
    Scott

The CPU of even the WL-500gx is too slow to provide fast FTP transfers.
You can write only to FAT, FAT32, ext2 and ext3 formatted partitions.
    Did you use NTFS?

600 kb/s is the max for the WL-500g, nothing to be done about it...

So 600kbps is the top it runat but 400 is closer to the real speed you will get. Smashing. And the other I did use NTFS. As it seems this is my problem will reformat it to Fat 32 and see what happens. When I checked it I thought it was already NTFS but I have a slippery mind could be worngwill try it.

    Cheers You guys rule.

False. Wl500g can do 2MB/s over NFS. I use it this way.
The partition it's working on is an ext3. NTFS accesses probably need more CPU.
