Thread: WL-500gx: some sites are blocked

Question WL-500gx: some sites are blocked

Hi, today i found that my router (wl-500gx, Asus firmware v.1.9.5.0) blocks some connections to certain websites.
    Few internationally known are:
    www.gmx.net
    www.openspf.org

If i plug ethernet cable to my ISP router (i have 3-port switch, since i can use up to 3 pcs), all the blocked websites works.
The usual mine network confguration is: ISP router->wl-500gx->home PCs (lan and wifi)
The behaviour is the same both with windows and mac pc, so isn't the pc network configuration, but the problem is in the router.
Strange, but the DNS are resolved correctly (with traceroute).

Can anybody suggest me wich options should i try do disable?
I disabled bandwidth management options and the WMM options, but nothing changed.
    Other suggestions?

    Thanks
    pieggi

    Very simmilar problem

Hi, I posted a new thread just a few minutes ago, and i noticed that you had the same problem:

I have a WL500g Deluxe router as Home Gateway (WAN => cable modem), providing internet for home WLAN of 2 stations (4x manual assign - 2x for wireless and 2x for wired + DHCP for eventual guests). I also have some ports forwarded by NAT to our two IPs, the port numbers are some 2xxxx for 192.168.1.2 and 3xxxx for 192.168.1.3 - for services like FTP, eMule, etc.).

The problem is that there are few servers that I can't get response from, the ping never turns back (not even those sent from router itself - telnet 192.168.1.1 > login > ping X...).

I'm sure there's nothing wrong with my PC, i tried to connect from WinXP with my FW disabled, from Linux with my WinXP disabled :-) and also by cable > router or by wireless from the other PC, and the result was still the same. Finally I tried to connect my PC to the ISP's modem directly (by cable), and everything was OK!

I have no idea of how this can happen, but I'd really feel better with my NOD32 updated, :-|...

    Some of those servers are
    root.cz [89.250.252.52]
    slunecnice.cz [89.250.252.31]
...and all (!) ESET update servers
    u20.eset.com [89.202.157.130]
    u31.eset.com [89.202.149.41]
    62.168.97.102 etc...

My static public IP (the one on the outer router side) is:
    89.190.46.211/255.255.254.0
    My router FW is:
    1.9.2.7-7e
    My ISP's modem is:
    WebSTAR EPC2100R2
    ...with fw:
    v2.0.2r1256-060303

    Thanx very much in advance!!!

    Similar Problem

I added to another thread about a similar problem I'm experiencing -> http://wl500g.info/showthread.php?t=4491

Looks like this happens every now & then. Can anyone suggest a way to troubleshoot where the traffic is stopping and WHY?

I thought it was ISP related, then Antivirus related, but in the end, removing the router fixes the issue. I'm thinking of disabling different startup programs to see if that fixes it...
