Is the HD listed in the USB -list in the router?Originally Posted by elaerion
Hi folks,
I wonder if anyone tried to connect a USB HD thats neither NTFS nor ext2.
I am running the preinstalled fw 1.9.6.7 from ASUS.
I am using a WD HD mounted in a trekstor USB case. The fs is ext3.
It seems that the router does not recognize my HD at all. A USB Printer attached to it works fine though.
Any ideas would be welcome.
Cheers,
C.

Nope, it is not.
You are talking about the section in the 'Status' menu where you can choose to 'eject' either the upper or lower usb port, right?
I also tried upgrading the fw to the latest one (1.9.6.9), but that didn't improve the situation.

hmm.
That's strange.
the HD, i connected is partitioned like this:
1. 100 Gb NTFS
2. 20 GB FAT32
3. 100 Gb NTFS
and this works fine for me.
Perhaps the chipset is not supported by the router?!?

I tried now with another HD.
It has two NTFS partitions on it, and it wasn't recognized either. It even crashed my router so that I had to reset and start my config again from scratch.
Teaches me to backub a working config for the future.
Anyway, I keep trying.
Update:
After properly resetting/restarting my router I managed to successufully connect my NTFS USB HD. I also put an ext2 partition onto the same HD. So the setup was an NTFS folowed by an ext2 partition.
Those worked fine in every possible way.
Then I tried my luck connecting my ext3 HD, with the no success whatsoever. I conclude that the current fw just has no support for journalling filesystems. Can anyone confirm that?
So I guess, I am just converting my HD back to NTFS or ext2.
Initially my Toshiba Ext. 250GB was NTFS, this resulted in a writing failure, I only could read the files on the HD. The connection was also unstable.
I converted my HD to FAT32 and all my problems where over. The only problem with FAT32 is that it can handle partitions not bigger than 200GB. So I made a second partition of 50GB.
