Shouldn't there be an "i" in "lib" in "/opt/lb/ipkg/lists/wl500g"?
Hi guys,
I have a WL-HDD connected via LAN to my WL500g.
I have recently updated the WL-HDD to the latest Oleg (1.9.2.7-7c) version.
I now want to use ipkg, but receive errors when updating
WLHDD login: admin
Password:
[admin@WLHDD root]$ mount /dev/discs/disc0/part1 /opt
[admin@WLHDD root]$ ipkg.sh update
Downloading http://wl500g.dyndns.org/ipkg/Packages ...
wget: wl500g.dyndns.org: Unknown host
ipkg_download: ERROR: Failed to retrieve http://wl500g.dyndns.org/ipkg/Packages returning
ipkg_update: Error downloading http://wl500g.dyndns.org/ipkg/Packages to /opt/lb/ipkg/lists/wl500g
Does anyone know how to setup the WL-HDD so it uses the internet connection of the router it is connected to?
Extra info: I can ping my router, but no outside adresses.
Thanks in advance!
Jeroen

I donīt think, that this has anything to do with this "i", because it would have been created after the message "unknown host", which is much more interesting, when attempting to contact the site wl500g.dyndns.org.
As you type in the adress in your browser, nothing irregular happens, but the path seems to be not completely correct at the first glimpse.
So, i have got the same problem as you, so try to find out the solution together, if nobody answers us.
could it be, that your router-firewall blocks you out?
yesterday i wasnīt lucky in downloading the file for ipkg, and, after ruining several hours, i didnīt want to try it once more. maybe i make an attempt the next few days by opening my router for a short time...

I've just reverted the firmware of my WL-HDD to the "normal" ASUS version. When I have more time, I'll try to upgrade again, but it won't be for a couple of weeks.....
For now I'll just re-install TwonkyVision and enjoy my music.
try to change the hosts file in /etc.
The wl-hdd at some point do not have the DNS at her side.
You can either ping the sites with your PC to obtain the IP address, or cut and paste the following to your hosts file.
212.192.248.17 wl500g.dyndns.org
140.211.166.82 ipkg.nslu2-linux.org
205.196.212.100 ipkg-us-dyoung.nslu2-linux.org
64.50.238.52 ftp.osuosl.org
194.51.102.69 ipkg-fr-jeanfabrice.nslu2-linux.org
From what I remember, I couldn't ping IP-numbers (except those in the local network) when I tried to install ipkg, so I doubt if modifying the hosts-file will work, but I'll give it a try.
Thank you for your help!
Jeroen
hello outside
i got two problems, not only that one, that i could not ping any hostname. even any ip-adress could not be pinged.
the reason has been very simple: i forgot an entry for the gateway of my router in the network setting of my wl-hdd.
after then it worked all fine.
thank you for the help with the host-file
marcus
marcus,
What did you do? Add the gateway (default 192.168.1.1) to the WL-HDD settings? Hmm, must try this, cheers!

A french newbie
ASUS WL-HDD + Hitachi 40 GB 4200 rpm
Dell Inspiron 8200 - Pentium 4 M 1.7GHz - 1GB RAM - GeForce 4Go 64GB - Hitachi 80 GB 7200 rpm
Adding the gateway in the html-based config-screens did the trick. It's been running along nicely for the last few weeks.
Want to install some packets too. I am offline (without internet) with my WL-HDD. Can I give ipgk any paramter to handle an update and the packages.
What files I have to put on HDD and to wich directory? Thanks for any help.
