How to map drive in Windows XP

    Hi

Can someone please tell me how to map my USB drive, connected to my wl-500gp, in Windows.

I can see the drive in Network neighbourhood but when I try to browse it says that the network path cant be found.

I have created a share in the web gui and set share permissions.

    Please help me!!!!

normally you can map a drive in the console with

    net use x: \\AsusRouter\Share$
where x is the drive name you want to use

sure your samba server is running?
sure, that the shares in smb.conf are set up right?

Maybe a stupid question, but is samba running on the router itself or should I use samba on my my Windows XP workstaion?

A Samba Server runs within Linux, so itīs running on your router.
Samba offers the shares for windows machines.

    Question I donīt get it

I downloaded the latest firmware from ASUS support site (ver 1.9.6.9)
I upgraded my router (WL-500gP) without probolems but I still casnīt map my USB drive, attached to the router, on my Windows XP workstation.

I canīt use the download manager, it says that it canīt find any devices.

Is there someway to get a CLI?

Is there a better firmware then the original (with working download manager etc.)

Is there a tutorial for the hidden admin page?

Please help me Iīm getting furious!!!!!

Iīm a senior network consultant but I canīt get this pease of #Ī%& working as it should.

    Best regards
    G

    googel, check the following:
    - plug the store device on the USB port;
    - login into the web config page of WL-500gP, enable media server and select which USB port is used for download. Save & Restart.

The Firmware from Asus only offers FTP.
So you will only be able to connect via FTP to your Harddrive.

If you want to use Samba (for a normal netdrive on your clients) you have to flash your router with the firmware from Oleg.
It offers a Samba server and you will be able to connect to your router via telnet (to edit the mount point from your hardisk or to set up several users with different permissions for the Samba shares)

if running, swich off (or adjust) the firewall on your pc
