    nfs,mail,web server

I need to run the following servers:

    • nfs server, to be used to record/play mpeg2 from dvb sat (around 25-30 Mbytes/minute, i.e 0.4-0.5Mbytes/sec, possibly multiple streams and/or simultaneous playback/recording, so I think at least 2MBytes/sec should be necessary)
    • mail server (smtp+imap, using postfix and cyrus-imapd, they're not available in oleg/openwrt but they're in debian, the latter is probably what will use most memory)
    • simple webserver with lighttpd, this should not be a problem
    • the usual suspects (dhcpd server, access point, tftp server for remote booting edit: an ssh server , etc.)

Has the wl-hdd enough juice for this? If not, would a wl500-gx with an usb hard-disk be suitable?

    hey there
all that usage looks a bit heavy
ive run thttpd on this and it is really sluggish on even the most basic html pages. Those data rates will probably not be achieved either. I have no experience with the wl500g but I can't imagine that it is significantly greater.

Feel free to visit my WL-HDD/WL-500g wiki at http://www.sprayfly.com/wiki
There are step by step guides on the installation and configuration of many optware packages as well as basic setup guides.

Supposedly all of that should work with an nslu2, I thought that the wl-hdd and/or wl500gx, albeit with a different hardware, would be similar in performance.

again, it seems they're easily attainable with an nslu2

Well, the gx has 32M of ram, instead of the 16M that both the wl-hdd and the nslu2 have. Maybe the wl-500g premium, with a beefier cpu, would work.
