    Help install IPKG and Twonkymedia

    Hello!
What i want to do: Install Twonkyvision and all my music on the WL-HDD to access it from my Netgear MP101.
Also acces the partitions from the wl-hdd via my PC for backups etc.
My equipment: PC with WinXP&SP2, no DSL, only Dial-In Internet-Connection (ISDN).

I have got my new WL-HDD and installed a 100GB Harddisk.
Then I wanted to go on with setting up my wl-hdd as described in
    http://www.twonkyvision.de/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1267
Acces to the wl-hdd via the ip 192.168.1.220 and lan-cable (no wlan) was possible.
I've upgraded to the Oleg SW 1.9.2.7-7b via the ASUS tools
    ->http://www.sprayfly.com/wiki/Upgrade
Then i've downloaded putty, it works, access to my wl-hdd is possible.
Next, http://www.sprayfly.com/wiki/Filesystem was also no problem.
    I've created 3 Partitions 40/40/20 GB
? Question, how much space is needed for the swap-partition?
    Next step was http://www.sprayfly.com/wiki/Ipkg
    but there begin my problems:
at the step 'ipkg.sh update' i've got the following messages:
    Downloading http://wl500g.dyndns.org/ipkg/Packages ...
    wget: wl500g.dyndns.org: Unknown host
ipkg_download: ERROR: Failed to retrieve http://wl500g.dyndns.org/ipkg/Packages, returning
    ipkg_update: Error downloading http://wl500g.dyndns.org/ipkg/Packages to /opt/lib/ipkg/lists/wl500g
As i understand, ipkg.sh wants to download from internet, that is not possible because i have NO internet-connection on the wl-hdd, only on my pc.
what can i do to complete this step and go on with the following steps.
    (installing automount, hdd_standby, samba).
    - can i copy the packets from a location to the wl-hdd (if, how?)
    - or can the wl-hdd access the needed internet-connection via my pc(how?)

After testing and testing i also tried to go back to ASUS-FW 1.2.3.9 with the asus tool 'firmware restoration'.
The connection was ok, update looks ok, the dialog says the system is updated. but then i can't get access to the wl-hdd. how long does the fw-upgrade need?
How much time is needed between power off the wl-hdd and power-on?
(i had some tries, where the wl-hdd looks like it will starting but the wlan led doesnt light and access was not possible (via putty or device-configuration)).

The last 2 days i've tested several things, but now i dont know what to do, I'm very confused because i only want to do basic things and it doesnt work.
Can somebody help me out of this deep hole please?

    Unhappy Ongoing Problems with WL-HDD

    Hello!
Nobody answered on my questions so done the following:
After upgrading to ASUS-FW 1.2.3.9 and many boot-tests i was able to connect to the wl-hdd via Windows-Explorer.
Copying files to the disk was possible for some files/folders and then the
    connection was disabled.
I have tested with my local PC (static IP and DHCP via wl-hdd) via switch and directly.

After many many tests reboots, fw-updates i dont know what to do.
I've got the wl-hdd (and 100GB disk) for easy access the disk from my lan.
Second i want to use the twonkymedia with the wl-hdd.
As what i read in all the forums it is no miracle, easy to access, configure and copy/read files via windows.
I don't know what i can do as next step.

I hope somebody can/will answer my questions:
    1. how long i must wait between power off and power on of the wl-hdd?
    2. Why will i loose my connection from win-explorer to wl-hdd after short time?
    3. After booting (plug in power) the disk sometimes (1 of 5) the wl-hdd comes up, and some times not, can there be a HW-problem?
    4. Are there any basic things i dont know ?

    Can anybody help me?

    Hallo Rainer

    hello Rainer,

did you solve your problem already?
i´ve got the same problem, but may due to my router, i don´t know.

If you use DHCP, the WL-HDD may be getting another IP, hence at the time the \\wl-hdd will not work due to address cached. You can use the utilty from asus (CD), the device discovery is to detect the wl-hdd in your lan, after you get the IP, use the IP to access (if it is changed), then next time you can still use the UNC to connect to it, until your next re-boot.

For ipkg.sh update, please follow my other reply to update first your hosts file.

    WL-HDD + Twonky, my solution

    harmonyfan,

I tried upgrading to Oleg's firmware like you described, but I too could not get it to install ipkg.
    What I did was:
Reset the WL-HDD tot factory defaults (firmware restoration tool)
    Upgrade to Oleg firmware.
    Run the Twonky setup (3.1)
Because telnet is available in de firmware, the TW setup will work (it will not work with Asus firmware).
Next, put initial.sh as intial script (via web interface )

I now have a running Twonkyserver in the WL-HDD.
The WL-HDD is connected by cable to my router.
    Files are copied using FTP
    Internet radio works.

    Hope this helps.

I am attempting to get my WL-HDD to operate as a stand alone MP3 server on my home network (ie I do not wish to have a PC providing the music serving) I wish Twonky to be loaded to the WL-HDD & serve from there, to my D-Link DSM-320 Media Player via hardwire network connection.

I have carried out all of the instructions implicitly as described in the "Sprayfly.com" WIKI.

But I cannot get SAMBA to work, can someone please help me.

    Hi Msimmo,

If you post your smb.conf file and any log files that are generated I'll have a look to see if you're doing anything wrong.

I was looking to get a Philips Streamium music player so I'd be interested in how you get along.

    Cheers
