something similar like WAN port dies issue

    Hello,

I had some similar problem. I use a Asus notebook (l5800c) with integrated wireless LAN adapter and a WL500g with 1.7.5.6-CR5. First I tried to use WPA with WPA wireless security update from Windows XP. But from time to time my connection hungs.
After that I decided not to use the WPA part but only WEP128 encryption.
    The same problem occured.
Last week I "discovered" an option within Windows to disable "automatic WLAN management" (by Windows). Now I am using only the ASUS (propriety) WLAN drivers with WEP128 encryption (WPA is not possible unfortunately) and it is as stable as a rock (already 5 days without problems !).
I hope some people will find this information usefull en possibly will fix some same kind of problem. Good luck !

    Leon

Well, it seems there's a problem with UPNP then... Maybe another solution could be to set UPNP suport in the router disabled.

For ones, who has experienced problems with eMule and similar. Let't track the problem (but as seems to me actually there are number of problems). So, once your connection get dropped connect to wl500g and check the uptime. It's probably just rebooting during this lost of connection. Also, please clarify: have you experienced problems with wired or wireless connection or both (please be sure to check this before reporting).

The router does not reboot for me. In my case, the WAN just completely shuts down, and never recovers. The LAN is fine, both wired and wireless, but nothing can access the Internet. I log in to the router, do a DHCP "Release" to my ISP, wait a few seconds, and then do a "Renew". That gets me back online until the next WAN shutdown occurs.

This was happening to me frequently using Azureus (P2P Bit Torrent client), and even more so when I used eMule/eDonkey at the same time. Some people reported that downgrading the firmware back to 1.6 fixed the issue for them. I tried that, but no change for me at all. Recently, I replaced the cable between the cable modem and the router with a much shorter, much heavier shielded cable. This has improved it greatly, as I can go much longer between disconnects, but it does still happen...

Have you tried pressing Renew without pressing Release? At the next time please check the uptime and please post your system log starting with words "unable to open ...". Also, be sure to disable firewall logging to reduce the size of the log.

magic. In fact it does not help you. How you've configured you modem? In short, who is providing dhcp - your modem or ISP (if you're not sure or someone else is configuring your modem then just say "don't know")?

For my case, when i'm using BT and the tranfer rate is higher than 300KB the wan port is easily to die. (I say easily because sometime it doesn't disconnect when the tranfer rate reach 300KB or over. But if transfer rate meet 300KB, it always make the wan port die.)
    um....
May be I can say if the file is busy, (may be the tranfer rate is high or a lot of connection) the router will be die and keep going to die on every 5-15 mins after resume. if the file is not busy, the router can work very stable, although the file size is over 1GB.

I'm using a WLAN to connect.
Using a VDSL modem and pppoe connect with my ISP(the sale said 10/10 mb connection)

Because I'm not at home until this weekend. I'll copy the log when i reach this problem

One wired thing is I have used another computer that is connected with the router by the LAN and running with BT with 5 sessions. The Wan port doesn't die in 5 hours(The transfer rate is not very high around 200 KB). When my brother turn on the the computer (that use a USB Buffalo 54G wireless Card (WLI-USB-G54) to connect) and using BT after 30 mins the WAN PORT die...

Have you tried ASUS 1.7.5.9 firmware?
Your problem is something weird... Have you tried upgrading the modem firmware?

  12. #27
OK, it just happened again. My uptime still states 1 day 13 hours.
You ask for my system log, starting with the words "unable to open..."
Is there a way to turn up the logging? My entire log is as follows:
    -------
Jun 10 01:30:54 dhcp client: renew IP address 216.195.134.34 from server 207.5.142.156
Jun 10 01:31:11 NTP client: time is synchronized to 131.107.1.10
Jun 10 13:30:54 dhcp client: renew IP address 216.195.134.34 from server 207.5.142.156
Jun 11 01:30:55 dhcp client: renew IP address 216.195.134.34 from server 207.5.142.156
Jun 11 01:32:50 NTP client: time is synchronized to 131.107.1.10
Jun 11 13:30:54 dhcp client: renew IP address 216.195.134.34 from server 207.5.142.156
Jun 11 15:08:55 dhcp client: deconfig: lease is lost
Jun 11 15:09:05 dhcp client: bound IP address 216.195.134.34 from server 207.5.142.156
    -------
The WLAN lockup occurred at 15:06, the last 2 lines show me manually doing a release and renew, which gets me going again.
My ISP provides a reserved DHCP IP address for me. In other words, based on my MAC address, the router always gets the same IP from my ISP.
I am currently running ASUS 1.7.5.9 firmware.

Your log looks fine. And yes, your log has no details due to the fact that you use stock ASUS firmware. I've no idea on how to solve this remotely.

  14. #29
    Bummer...
Is there different firmware you'd like me to try to get a log with more info?
