    Question hdd: /opt or /tmp/harddisk

    Hi,

I read a lot on this nice forum.
I hope someone can help me with one question.

I am trying to figure out the best solution for connecting my HDD to the Asus WL 500g de luxe.

I fomatted the complete 160 GB disk to ext3.

After enabling the Samba via the web-configuration, I got the HDD mounted to /tmp/harddisk.

I read a lot about mounting it to /opt.

    Does this make a difference?
And what about the read speed from a XBox (XMBC)?

    Please help

    JB

    Good

    Normal

No, /opt is for installing aditional software for the router, nothing to do with the file sharing stuff

Should be limited by usb port speed debending on your 500g model. Using ext3 on hd eliminates at least some samba poblems you get with fat32.

    Hi,

    Thanks for your info.
    Makes thing clearer for me.

    One more question:

I try to play dvd's from the Asus- HDD on my XBox.
    This is very 'choppy'.
Is the CPU of the Asus quick enough for DVD streaming ?

DVD Video Rates can go up to over 6Mbit, usb2.0 can handle this, though the cpu has to pull this from usb to thernet. It´s possible that there is a bottleneck. I have a 500g, so i cant tell you specific on the 500gx. you can open telnet on the router and view cpu usage by typing "top". Just look yourself if it goes to 100% (top line).
You can search the forum, i remember some threads on this.

    Thanks

I did what you advised me.
I run Kaistation as well, and together they use 100 % CPU
    and 100 % memory.

So I will see what I can do.

    Thanks again
