Perhaps your wl500g is defective.
wl500g-deluxe problem:
In the last week i often wondered why my LAN-connection often drops from 8-9mbyte/sec to 200kb/sec or much lower, and only jumps back to the full 100mbit-speed after rebooting my machines and praying to the bitgod. For example, copying 1gb over the net runs often like this: the first 100mbyte are running through the cables with fullspeed, and then the connection collapses to speeds from 10kbyte/sec - 400kbyte/sec
today i used new ethernet-card, new cables, and also tried it with a cross-linked peer2peer connection without using the router. only the last worked, so i am very sure that the wl500gx is the bottleneck. but why? if it is a miss-configuration, why i am sometimes able to copy with fullspeed and often i am not? thanks for any tip

Didn't you try to set the port speed to fix rate (100mbit)?
Sure, if you mean my network-adapters and not the router itself. i never found a possibility to set the routers transfer rate.Originally Posted by Technik
maybe the device is just broken, like oleg asked.
