Thread: Problem in wlan connection

    Problem in wlan connection

Yesterday I bought the WL-500g Router and one WL-100g PCMCIA to my notebook, and I was amazed with the simplicity in installing the all stuff.

I used one lan to my desktop computer, the wan to my Cable Modem, and the pcmcia to wire my notebook. And it was made with no problems. I had network between the desktop and notebook, and Internet in both.

But since today afternoon I can't get network to my notebook. I've tried almost everything. Restore to factory defaults, with encryption and without, with manual ip, with dhcp and without, upgrade firmware etc etc... but I still can't get my notebook to see any network when I make a search.
Still, it's all ok with the lan (with my desktop computer, wired with Lan).

But strangely, if I put Ad Hoc network type on the Wlan PCMCIA I can see the network, but I can't connect to it. But if I change to Infraestructure, nothing appears in the search.

Can anyone help me? Is the problem in the Router? Or in the PCMCIA configuration? I'm desperating!!!

    Thanks in advance!

Have you followed this thread already?

do exactly as described, make sure you DO NOT have the Asus utility installed. if you have to uninstall the utility, be sure the reinstall your drivers correctly.

Check out Antiloop's guide to setup working wlan, and if that doesn't help, see this thread for a few issues.

Thank you all! In fact, I read all the posts in Questions and Answers and forgot to watch the other sections.

I followed the Antiloop's Tutorial, and now it's all ok. Is the Asus Utility so bad?

But there is one last problem. In the wireless connection, I only can have 1mbps connection... even if I'm near the AP. What seems to be the problem?

1mbps is very low yes.. ehm try updating to a new driver version first

    find it here: http://wl500g.info/showthread.php?t=110

about the asus util, it's not bad but wlan-utils can cause problems sometimes
and without it should work and then you almost know for sure your hardware is not faulty

but feel free to change settings (you know the ones which will work now..)

try also updating to firmware 1.7.5.7 or 1.7.5.6CR2

Thanks! I've updated the drivers, and now it's all ok!

Later I'll try the hacked firmware!

    Thanks for your responses!
