Can wl-hdd be used as a router ?

Hi everyone, I've tried all day long to configure this little grey box, by reading the forum, and I have one question:

I thought wl-hdd could be used as a router with the 1.9.2.7-6b firmware, I've flashed it and I've configured it as a getaway. This is what I expected:

cable modem ----(ethernet)-----wl-hdd----(wifi)-----laptop

Is that possible or not? I've managed to access to the hd by ftp, but never to the internet. Is it impossible, or is there anything "special" to do? (something more than getaway and dhcp...)
