Thread: Wireless DHCP not working in latest firmware?

Question Wireless DHCP not working in latest firmware?

    Hi,

Just got the wl-500g.. and it seems that i found a bug..
Whenever i enable the wireless DHCP(which should start at 192.168.2.2) i am not getting a IP and my laptop keept bein stuck at an 169.x.x.x address...

Wheneven i turn the wireless dhcp off.. i get an 192.168.1.x address (which is correct)..

Is this a bug or am i missing something?

please not which firmware you are using. i don't know which one is the latest in your eyes..

please also try the official ones first.. then we know if it is a bug in the custom ones

Ok.. i'm running the latest official version now.. The DHCP & firewall will work and give my laptop the correct ip (192.168.2.2), but ONLY without encryption (!). As soon as i enable encrypton (WPA-PSK), either TKIP or AES, the DCHP will fail.
I haven't tried WEP because it is not secure enough to my taste anyway.

Any solutions or can somebody point me to Asus where i can report this bug?

    thanks,

    Pascal

you can contact asus through the website somewhere i believe. you could also contact Asus Holland ask them if they want to forward your mail to Asus Taiwan.. as i'm not allowed to give their email addresses away

What OS are you running on the laptop? If this is Win XP, make sure you have all wireless fixes installed...

Yes, i am running winXP.. i'll look into the fixes.

Funny thing is that the router will work fine WITH encryption on the standard DHCP server (192.168.1.x range, wireless firewall and DHCP are DISABLED)

As soon a i turn on the wireless DHCP & firewall. (192.168.2.x range).. no connection UNLESS i turn the encryption OFF...

    regards,

and what if you assign a static ip to the pc, is it able to connect to the internet then?

if that fails, something is wrong with your passphrase

Hmm.. nope.. even with a fixed IP the connection is gone..

    weird..

as for the passphrase... i guess 12345678 cannot go wrong..

    try 192.168.1.50 / 255.255.255.0 for example
and 192.168.2.50 / 255.255.255.0 maybe some bridging goes wrong..

try to insert the key instead of a passphrase

as i wrote in howto this helped me to get cards workin with the same problem you have.

with passphrase i got connection, everything seems to be correct but no data, dhcp or something else could be transferred.

after i took the same passphrase but inserted the key directly on the windows xp client everything worked as expected

i had this problem only with wep 128 bit encryption

wpa-psk worked with passphrase without a problem

Thanks for the reply.. i'll try that later.

Just to make sure: Did it work when you enabled the wireless firewall and dhcp server? (your wireless adapter should have an ip address in the 192.168.2.x range)

    thanks,

i had this problem without activating wireless firewall

but i had the general problem with connecting with encryption

so this was only an advice

dunno if this is workin with your settings, too

Did anyone find a solution to this problem?

I, too, have found the same problem. If you turn on wireless firewall and WPA you can't connect. I have tried all available versions of official and custom firmware and all work the same. I think the wireless firewall is an excellent one. Since that feature has been deleted in the current official firmware, is it possible that the bug could be fixed in the custom firmware?

    Thanks
