SNMP is great feature, especialy for monitoring purposes
There are 2 important things:
1.OID is a number with dot`s. someting like 1.3.6.1.2.1.2.2.1.16.5
every oid is a mark for some SNMP feature of system (wl500xx,linux,windows...)
With SNMP you can monitor state, counting, presence and much much more stuf of your devices in unit, computer ...etc.
You can use it to monitor data flow over interfaces, procesor load, state of interfaces (enabled, disabled), even you can set devices or interfaces throug SNMP (if there is a RW community)
2. community is unique name (someting like snmp password) and without it you cannot do anything with snmp data.
community can be RO or RW , readonly, readwrite
with RO, you just use a data from snmp, and with RW you can SET data into snmp and control your unit
Best way to find all OIDS in SNMP is to use program called GETIF
and for monitoring purposes best way is to use MRTG or RRD tools to monitor allmost anything from your unit.
With ASUS WL500g this works perfectly and that is one very important option. Asus finaly got it...

Hi all,
I've been reading this forum for a long time ...
My first question is quite simple : where can I find the MIBs ?
download ucd-snmp (net-snmp) package. the mibs are pretty standard.
I'm using Cacti and it works perfectly with wl-500g snmp features.Originally Posted by Tomekk
