    Firmware v1.9.2.7 CR6, updated to CR6a ... now CR6b [Oleg]

New firmware available for download. It includes snmp support and updated samba, which should allow handling of files > 2gb in size.

    The complete list of changes:
    • Timezones fixes, affecting ppp reconnect issues
    • Fixed pppoe/pptp mss clamping (thanks to Ark+ for reporting)
    • Added various busybox applets
    • Fixed UPnP crashes (thanks to tomilius for finding this out)
    • Yet another WAN port dies fix
    • Added snmp support
    • Updated samba to patched 2.0.10
    • WL500g Deluxe VLANs completely reworked
    • Restore to defaults/shutdown are now called using RESTORE/RESET button as follows:
      • first 3 seconds - power LED on: release button to do nothing
      • next 5 seconds - power LED off: release button to "shutdown"
      • next 5 seconds - power LED blinking: release button to reset to defaults
      • start over

    Updated firmware to CR6b:
    • Changed WAN port dies workaround (perhaps this one would be the last)
    • Samba now properly deals with large (> 2gb) files
    • Fixed usb printer model parsing bug (affects some Canon models and usb/lpt adapters)

    Great work.

    Great work Oleg.

It seems like it is much improved regarding handling P2P traffic like emule. The .5a version made WAN completely die when running emule, this one seems to handle it much better (even though not perfect).

    Also - when using /usr/local/sbin/post_firewall

on the 500gx version that I am using, I now have to change the WAN port from eth0 to vlan1....this will probably cause problems for some people :-)

So, that's why never use hardcoded names. post-firewall gets WAN ifname as one of the args, and the correct usage is suggested on my page.

P.S. ATTN: WL500g Deluxe owners: WAN port is now vlan1, LAN is vlan0.

Has anything changed in wireless section?

...namely, when I upgraded WL-500gx from 1.9.2.7 CR5a to CR6, reset it to defaults and reloaded CR5a settings - my wireless AP disappeared. I can no longer connect to my WPA-PSK (AES) protected wireless network (open seems to work, haven't tried WEP yet).

    Wink Intermittant wireless connection

Hello group. I got the wl-005g model ,2.4 board revision router this week,so I
decided to flash it with v1.9.2.7 cr5a and everything appeared fine so I decided to flash with cr6a. I had disconnected leads and cables to enable a clean reboot prior to flashing, after it rebooted i noticed that the wireless connection was poor, dropping and intermittent. connection was reading good but speed was varying from 1 - 11 mb/s on a dell true mobile 1150 pc card
I immediately suspected the firmware upgrade but only when i tried to adjust
the antenna i noticed that this was effecting the connection. I squeezed the centre socket of the antennaes sma connector with a jewellers screwdriver and now the connection has been perfect since. What i really want to warn others is of a possible faulty antennae causing this type of fault and what a
coincidence with this acting up when i done an update, must have effected
it when i was removing the connections..I would also Just like to thank you for the great software..I`m a total linux novice and I`m really crawling through the tutorials. sorry for the long post but I hope that my problem may
be of help to others..? regards Jelly

    bandwidth management

i've been using Oleg's great custom firmware's on a WL500g with great success.
    currently 1.9.2.7-6a.3

i've been trying to use the BANDWIDTH MANAGEMENT.

i wanted to make at least 64k/s (half megabit) for browsing Port 80
also at least 20k/s for Port 25 (uploading email).
my connection is 2048/200 (256k/25k) ...(damn NTL upload ratios)

in the web interface is see the units described as Min.(kbps)
    i understasnd this is KiloBytes/sec.
so i enter 64 for port 80, etc
(i've also tried to enter in BITS 65536) but no difference)
browsing with a P2p programe running in background like Emule, shareaza, etc still slow and the Bandwidth Management doesn't seem to work.

anyone know why, or havingsame problem?

The units are kilobits, so you should enter 512.

with the bandwidth management as MIN 512Kb/s the setting doesn't work either.
browsing crawls at dial up speads or WORSE.
clearly port 80 not getting it's minimum half megabit.

i upgraded to firmware .6b, now in P2P progs i'm firewalled and my girlfriend's lappy can't see the router at all !
i set DMZ on my PC for my IP to not be firewalled.that worked.
wireless laptop still not seeing the router at all.

tried Asus's official 1.9.2.7 to test bandwidth management but it's the same story. it simply does not work.

Keep in mind, that bandwidth management is made by ASUS, not me, so it's good idea to call asus tech support.

    Hey Oleg,

I've been using firmware 1.9.2.7-6b for over a week and this firmware finally solves the dhcp lease reset problem, which the ASUS ones don't.

However, the router still reboots sometimes, usually after a day (or two).
At first I thought that it rebooted because the internal flash was full due to the syslog, so I killed syslogd to prevent that from happening. But still it reboots sometimes.

Unfortunately, I can't give you logfiles because when it reboots, it erases the log (ofcourse) so how or what do you need to track this problem?

All I have to say about that is lol.

But otherwise, I have to say my router has been extraordinarily stable since I ditched wireless (almost fully; PPC). Even then, it was stable--no crashing in over 20 days, and then I messed with it--but the wireless functionality wasn't, at least when used with my horrible ASUS wireless card (I still have a support ticket open with them about it that hasn't been responded to in a few months now, or ever). Most of my configuration (the firewall) is done with scripts, and recently I was able to "overcome paranoia" and forget about radius (it worked but was an unnecessary pain the way I had it set up). ... Anyway, thanks for the good firmwares, Oleg! I'm having a blast not even having to think about my router.
