The question is, why are there two screenshot-files of the write performance on the desktop at the second read-screenshot?

I guess the first was taken after a while, where hggomes said, the speed dropped.

Then they retook the write-screenshot and the read-screenshot right after the start.

I've been considering this router and also Mikrotik RB751G. I recently asked about a comparison between both and I got this response:

Routerboard is powered by a professional RouterOS operating system, which has thousands of functions, and is running global networks. It is the same OS that's running our high end devices, and has the same functionality.

The Asus device is a home router with a few functions. It's performance is lower and functionality very limited.

Of course, many functions also means steep learning curve, but once you master RouterOS, you have full control and very much power.

What is your opinion?

all the features of RouterOS... let's call it linux, because it is linux. oleg, which is going to support the new asus router also happens to be linux, like most routers these days all run linux.

Mikrotik... this one: http://routerboard.com/RB751G-2HnD ?
has also a mipsel cpu, 200MHz lower than the rt-n66u. so yeah, Mikrotik will be slower.
Also only 64MB ram while asus has 256MB ram...

they are right about the standard firmware tho... sure it's limited, but install any alternative firmware and you're as free as any router of Mikrotik.

which one is the hummer now?
I mean... routers can go as wild as you want, you can build them yourself with a lot more juice, but this RT-N66u sure looks good for a consumer router.

If you were talking about a Routerboard RB1100AH with Cavium > 1GHZ CPU then it's another story, now a Atheros 400MHZ its not camparable to RT-N66U.

apparently hardware.info (a dutch computer related website) has some test results

the router uses around 10-11W, just like the netgear N900. the wan-lan and lan-wan speeds are pretty much the same.

The wifi speeds are however a lot faster on the rt-n66u
with a WLAN to LAN performance of 229Mbit/s over 5GHz with an intel Centrino 6300agn card
no idea where they've got these results from tho

it's in dutch, and imho... it's a lot mumbo jumbo...
first of all they say that asus always had poor network products (mainly because of the firmware) compared to other routers... seriously?

then the guy starts a whole story about that 5GHz is amazing but isn't fitted in every laptop... uhu, but I don't need almost 2 minutes to tell you about it
it wasn't even about the router anymore

but yeah, in the end there's nothing new shown in the video

saw this last noon... and a second unboxing video too - both really full of trash and duplicate content (don't have the feeling sharing it here)

I mean, the unboxing guy compares the size of the antennas with that ones of a D-Link router - pffff
