they are using the driver from netgear

    Code:
This driver was extracted out of the GPL source package for NETGEAR WNDR4500

It contains the Broadcom wireless driver 5.100.138
This driver includes firmware version 666.2

    http://www.downloads.netgear.com/files/GPL/WNDR4500-V1.0.0.40_1.0.10_src.tar.zip
    WNDR4500-V1.0.0.40_1.0.10_src/src/wl
    RT-N66U TomatoUSB 1.28.0000 MIPSR2-135 K26AC USB AIO-64K running Entware-NG
    pyload 0.4.9
    minidlna 1.1.2
    samba 3.6.5
    openvpn 2.3.10

Thanks, i've seen that's the oldest version:

    For Firmware Version 1.0.0.40, 1.0.0.50, 1.0.0.58, 1.0.0.70, 1.0.0.103

This is last version, maybe drivers are more recent:

    http://www.downloads.netgear.com/fil...21_src.tar.zip

    What's New in Release 5.110.9?
    Based on driver version 5.100.107
    CFE: Add a new clock combination : 530, 212, 106
CLM update for 3x3 - Create US/61 based on US/53 power levels
Rename some local variables to comply with shadow compiler warnings

    Netgear creation date: 02.02.2012
    Asus creation date: 10.02.2012

    wl_ap.o
    wl_apsta.o
    wl_sta.o

Anyone knows if ASUS opensource contains drivers as well? I checked and yes it has drivers, so why not use them? If they're used on stock FW...

^we talked about 5.100.138, i think thats more recent...

read toastmans post that a netgear driver may not suit the rt-n66u, but tomato on the rt-n66u seems to be stable ^so it's worth a try?

    We are awaiting for ASUS.
How the actual 5.60 was available to you?
    From ASUS.
    And 5.100 to tomato?
I don't know. Unfortunately, main TomatoUSB developer teddy_bear too busy for last months
Even it's not 100% stable i think it was a good idea releasing your FW like Tomato did, it's better than nothing...
Sorry, SDK upgrade requires too much efforts. We simply has no time to do it twice.

Last SDK is 5.110. Whats New available to SDK subscribers(ASUS, Netgear, etc.) only.

as asus is is using community repo (http://wl500g.info/showpost.php?p=244944&postcount=192) they are obligated to share the sdk

yeah tell that all the other thousands of companies
but the SDK is not gpl'd right? which would mean they don't have to share that part? all the patches for linux etc are available in the archives so far.
But I guess broadcom is still not completely opensource

    .102 got new drivers:

    eth0: Broadcom BCM47XX 10/100/1000 Mbps Ethernet Controller 5.100.138.20
    PCI: Enabling device 0000:01:01.0 (0000 -> 0002)
PCI: Setting latency timer of device 0000:01:01.0 to 64
    eth1: Broadcom BCM4331 802.11 Wireless Controller 5.100.138.20
    PCI: Enabling device 0000:02:01.0 (0000 -> 0002)
PCI: Setting latency timer of device 0000:02:01.0 to 64
    eth2: Broadcom BCM4331 802.11 Wireless Controller 5.100.138.20

PS: Why i cannot notice almost any difference from coverage on WL-500GP vs RT-N16 vs RT-N66U?

    you'll notice a 5 Ghz coverage

beside that - don't you get a stronger signal in "bad" locations?
