"Too busy to play with you"

    Hi all,

I need backup software that is able to make backups to an USB-disk connected to a Asus WL500G access point. Firmware rev. 1.9.4.0.

On my PC's I run WinXP Servicepack 2. I am able to connect to the disk using the 'my network places' option in the start menu. I also can write to the disk using Word.

However: I seem NOT to be able to connect to the disk using SyncbackSE, which is the backup program. After having entered the TCP/IP address of my router and clicking 'test FTP' syncbackSE returns with: "Cannot connect: Too busy to play with you".

Support from 2BrightSparks (the developer of Syncback) returns with the following:
    "Hi,

I found the following web page about this error:

    http://wl500g.info/printthread.php?t=272

It says you must clear the system log. We're not familiar with that access point so it may be better to contact the manufacturer if this does not resolve the problem.

Please note the (rather rude) error message "Too busy to play with you" is actually from your access point and is not a SyncBackSE error.

    I hope that helps.
    "

    NOT, I am afraid...

Anyone of you can help me out?

    Thanx

yes, this message is generated by stupid-ftpd in response to unknown/invalid ftp command. so, looks like syncback is not compatible with built-in ftp server.

    Try vsftp

Maby you should try to use olegs latest firmware, and install vsftp instead.

I have written a guide for it here : www.macsat.com/wlguide

    I read it all

I read all of your info. It seems to me that you have to be a Linux expert to manipulate the WL500G to be a proper FTP-host.
Now, Macstat, as I understand a need Oleg's firmware to turn the router into an open Linux machine? Provided that I am currently running the genuine ASUS firmware vs. 1.9.4.0, which version of Oleg's software can I install? Is the installation routine using the same procedure as ASUS's?
And after I up(?)graded to the Oleg-version, what exactly to do next?
Log in to the router using telnet? (I think I can manage so far) But I am not a Linux or Unix user, let alone an expert..., so after this, I am afraid, I need a lot more help....
    Thanx!

    upgrade to latest

    Hi

I suggest you upgrade to latest Oleg version.

    That would be 1.9.2.7-5a

    Find it on : http://oleg.wl500g.info

After that, follow first the "ipkg package system" tutorial, and then the "vsftp ftp server" tutorial on :

    http://www.macsat.com/wlguide/

Both guides should be pretty much step 4 step to follow, even though you dont know any linux / unix at all.
