Problem with Samba

Hi.

I got a WL 500gx and when I use the 1.9.2.7-4 firmware, SAMBA runs fine but when I use the 1.9.2.7-5a (or 1.9.2.7-5) firmware, I get some problems. In Windows XP , I can see the samba-share (and share$) and the files on the disk, but I can't be allowed to read the files or write new files to the disk.
Ftp works fine and the LAN hostname got a value

Any suggestion?

Well you can check out /var/log/smb and /tmp/syslog.log for any errors. You can also post your /etc/smb.conf file if you want some to help you see if you have something wrong there..

When I just updated from CR4 til CR5a, samba works fine, but after a router reboot I get the same problems. I can see the files and browse the folders on the samba-share but I'm not allowed to read the files or write new files to the drive.
Please help me

Yeah, for me the same. With the 5a I can only see the shares but not read them. With ..4 everything works fine. Perhaps a bug. I have the Deluxe.

Hi Oleg,

I think my problem is that I tried to change the security-option within the smb.conf from "share" to "user" and created a smbuser and password with smbpasswd. Could it be possible that Samba 1.9.18 cannot handle encrypted passwords from a XP-client? However, whatever I'm changing within the smb.conf, since I played around with this smbpasswd stuff I'm getting smb-logs like the following one and can't read or write on the shares (except from creating new folders!):

Thanx, Oleg! The force user = root entry did the trick for me. There stood admin before. But why works it with version .4 and not in 5a with the standard-settings?

I'm using the ext3-filesystem. The filesystem permissions of all data on /tmp/harddisk are set recursevly to 777, just to prevent any problems referring to this......

Anyway, I meanwhile re-flashed the wl-500gx and now it works again with the standard-settings.
But the question is, is it possible to set security = user? I don't like the idea of giving anyone access to ALL shares. I would like to give access for everyone only to specific shares whereas other shares should only be accessed by myself (with my XP-user). The way I handled that when my files were on a W2k3-Server...

Yes, it works fine for me with security = user. You've to add users both to passwd and smbpasswd.
