Using WL500 as ethernet switch/hub on existing network?

Hi,

I have received a new wireless router modem with my new broadband account.

I wish to connect my Asus to this via ethernet cable, to act as a network hub/switch only - no wireless. I want it to be on the same network as the new router, so I can access devices connected to the Asus by IP address, etc.

What is the best way to go about this?

A bit confusing to me; you say you don't want the wireless on, but at the same time you want to access things wirelessly. OK, maybe I'll just answer your quistion then and let you worry about the rest.

The Asus can be setup to a LAN IP address that is in the same range as your other router. Please note that you can best do this with both routers disconnected from each other, that's why you may need to (temporarily) set a static IP address on your network adapter.

Next steps are: disable DHCP-server, Firewall and NAT. My Asus is currently dead unfortunately (power supply I guess) so I cannot check, but as I recall mine was working as a switch in Gateway mode just fine. You can enter a random static private IP address in the WAN section, such as 10.0.0.1.

After doing all that, connect the two routers via their LAN ports and you should be OK.
