    CPU: BCM5350, 200MHz (?)
    RAM: Samsung K4S641632H - SDRAM, 8MB
    FLASH: MX29LV160, 2MB (?)

Conclusion: it's much better to buy WL500g or WL500g Deluxe

I think it's the afterburner technology which is responsible for the larger range of the WL-520g. But many WL-500g's are also -unofficially- capable of using afterburner.

    Custom Firmwares

Would the custom firmwares work on the 520?

Has anyone tried it yet? Oleg, care to venture a guess if you or anyone hasn't tried already?

    Thanks, JJ.

Custom firmware would not fit to 2MB of flash; 8MB of RAM is really a big problem. So, most likely this unit would not be supported by custom firmwares. I've no interest in this.
This is a cheap and useless device.
