try launching rcamd_main, it should load modules and launch rcamd with correct args.
thanks oleg... you are right. while the router was running we reconnected the webcam and it was working. however this is not what we want... i then added the line for loading the pwc module to the post-init script in /usr/local/sbin.
Now i think that i only have to start the rcamd. Do you know the exact command what hotplug runs on device plugin? i then would add this command (after checking that the camera is there) to the post-inst script.
thanks in advance

thanks oleg... i tried... but it dont works. tried with/without loading pwc. the program i loaded was rcamdmain and it does nothing. it should spawn an httpd process and 3 additional rcamd on start (this happens if i do a reconnect of the cam). i now try to download the source to figure out the best way. it will take a while now, but i hope i figure out the way how to do it....

Hi,
i have connect this Cam on my 500g. Mode acticex&refresh, OV511 2.10 and 320x240. When i hit Preview, a new Broqserwidow is open, but no picture is shown. "Image is not ready"
Is this Cam compatible to my router? What can i do?
Thanxx
It looks like this is not an OV51x based cam, nor PWC. So it's not supported.
Hello!
My webcam (Medion) works fine with 1.7.5.6 but since 1.9.2.7 it didn't work.
I got this in systemlog:

Revert back to 1.7.5.6?

Did you plug in an external harddrive as well? Was that connected before as well?
If you connect just the cam, no usb hub or drive, does it work then?
*shame*
without HUB it works.
Thanks!
edit:
the cam is not mine and at last testing I use 1.7.9.6 and a other HUB.

No problem, glad to be of service
The issue probably is that you're using a passive hub now (without power supply) and that the sum of the cam+hub+drive asks to much power. If you replace it with a powered hub there shouldn't be a problem AFAIK.
The funny think is that the other HUB (previous uses) is also passiv.

Hello,
I would like to buy a webcam to interface with a WL500g.
From what I've seen the imagem quality on most (usb) webcams is quite low..
So, do you have any sugestions for a webcam that has a good image quality?
thanks.
ps: if you can, please post a sample shot from your webcam...

It's all about price vs performance I use Phillips ToUCam (do not remember exact model number) together with pwc drivers version 9 - this allows 640x480 resolution. framerate is set to 2 fps, since I use it with motion software as motion detector. FW used is Oleg's 1.9.2.7 CR4.Originally Posted by gwl
Known problems with this set:
- Spurious changes in camera brightness set on very bright scene.
- Sometimes driver cannot init camera - I had to program reboot to avoid it.
- Images are horisontally mirrored - I have to use flip option in my mencoder setup
- If antifliicker mode is switched on on this cam, it becomes unusable on bright light - had to switch it off, using PC software
Attached is yesterdays shot with my cat's motion detected in lower left corner

Thanks for your reply!
today I went shopping to a outlet shop and found some cheap (and old!) webcams from intel at only 9,99eur... (did't buy it... )
It was a Intel® Play™ Me2Cam* Computer Video Camera

http://www.qbik.ch/usb/devices/showdev.php?id=294
apparently it should work in linux with the ov511 linux driver...
