looks like a nice mid-range router with lots of options

too bad there is a modem inside... I already have one

    Acceleration of PPTP

I've increased the speed of pptp connection up to 2,5 times theoretically.
Firmware with accelerated pptp is based on the latest stable 1.0.1.2 gpl sources from asus site, and we need volunteers to test it at high traffic load.

FW should be flashed via web-interface, as usual, neither reconfiguration not options changes are required after switching from original 1.0.1.2 FW.
If something goes wrong, you can fallback on the last official from asus with flashing back it via web-interface.

In my country is avaible to buy for 70Ђ (105$).

FW by link above, it is stock firmware with upgraded PPTP only.
So, no any custom features yet, only PPTP speedup.

I managed to compile the rtn13u firmware using the GPL sources provided by Asus (a miracle since asus tools had always failed to compile correctly for me before). Before compilation I modified busybox to include wget and chroot applets. Then I moved the rtn13u root file system of the newly compiled firmware to another mipsel device. To test the rtn13u root file system, I chrooted into it, and chroot worked.

I also compiled dropbear using buildroot-2009.02-rc1, moved it to the rtn13u root file system and tried to run it in the rtn13u chroot. dropbear ran fine, which means binaries compiled by this buildroot version can run on the rtn13u. So I decided to include dropbear in the firmware and generated another one.

Now, the flashing part. Using the web interface, I flashed my firmware with dropbear. It flashed without any complaint, but after reboot it went into recovery mode. I checked the firmware size, it was nearly 4MB. Too big. So I flashed the stock firmware on it to try bringing it back to normal. Didn't work, still in recovery mode. Time to hook up the serial console!

Using the serial pinout shown in this thread and the baudrate I got serial access fine and did a tftp flash of the stock firmware. The same thing happened: recovery mode after flashing.

So I had a brilliant idea (at the time ): clear the flash and flash again. Too bad I erased everything, including u-boot. Now only the power LED stays on. Yes, I have a brick .

I also discovered that while inside the rtn13u chroot, I could do another chroot into the Oleg file system, set up Optware and ran Optware binaries like transmission and dropbear OK. And while having a brief play with the physical rtn13u before I bricked it, I found out that as soon as I connected a hard drive, I got kicked out of telnet. Sneaky tactic by Asus eh? I think we can get around this by using utelnetd instead of the busybox telnetd.

You have to put router in TFTP recovery mode by lower button. Desktop IP address must be set to 192.168.1.15 for this operation.

Sorry, don't know anything about dd-wrt.

dd-wrt firmware for RT-N13U now ready for testing http://www.dd-wrt.com/phpBB2/viewtop...=asc&start=135

Everything critical working fine for me.
    • USB auto mount not working

    • TX Power not working correctly

    • NG Mixed mode works only as G

    • QoS who cares :-)

Almost identical to original HW rev. Twice the ram size and an MX29LV640EBTI-70 flash on board. Circuit board is identical.
