how fast your hdd that connected to asus router, when you copy file using samba(stop transmission/any torrent client/download first).
mine:
asus wl500-w
hdd seagate 80GB
speed 2MB/s at max

Asus WL-500W overclocked to 300mhz (official clock speed of broadcom)
WD MyBook 1TB - read: up to 5mb/s ______ write: max 4.5mb/s
WD Essentials 500GB - all around 4mb/s
All measured via samba 2 on vista ultimate 64bit
Shouldn't be described a common approach to provide these figures?
wl500gP v1 (factory clocking = 264MHz)
[abcd@wxyz]$ hdparm -tT /dev/discs/disc1/part6
/dev/discs/disc1/part6:
Timing cached reads: 88 MB in 2.03 seconds = 43.35 MB/sec
Timing buffered disk reads: 32 MB in 3.12 seconds = 10.26 MB/sec
approximate rate 3.5MB/s read
approximate rate 3MB/s write

I have a wl500gp v2 and the transfer speed in download is about 2.5MB/s and in upload of 3MB/s.
I tried to give an higher priority to samba processes and to stop all the unecessary processes but there weren't no changes.
During file transfer, the samba process uses about 70% of cpu.
I tried to overclock the cpu speed up to 275Mhz through the nvram set clkfreq command but i think that it doesn't work with the v2. After reboot "nvram get clkfreq" gives me a frequency of 275mhz, whereas "cat /proc/cpuinfo" gives me 239Mhz.
My next step is to try with a shielded cat5e cable then ... i must surrender
Good luck,
Brembs
[admin@WL500GP /]$ hdparm -tT /dev/discs/disc0/part1

Timing cached reads: 50 MB in 2.02 seconds = 24.75 MB/sec
Timing buffered disk reads: 18 MB in 3.12 seconds = 5.77 MB/sec

Timing buffered disk reads: 24 MB in 3.26 seconds = 7.36 MB/sec

[admin@server root]$ hdparm -tT /dev/discs/disc0/part1
/dev/discs/disc0/part1:
Timing cached reads: 90 MB in 2.03 seconds = 44.33 MB/sec
Timing buffered disk reads: 32 MB in 3.14 seconds = 10.19 MB/sec
With an old noname HDD 2,5" and regular CPU Clock on a Wl500gP V1
