Thread: WL500g won't connect to internet

Question WL500g won't connect to internet

I'm trying to install the WL500g together with a wired ADSL modem but cannot access the internet through the router.

When the modem is connected directly to the PC I can access the web. Also when the router is connected to the PC I can access the setup page (http://198.....). Therefore the problem seems to lie between the router and the modem, which I have connected as shown in the instructions.

I'm at a total loss what to do so any guidance would be appreciated.

maaaybe the router ip is the same as the modem ip?

you can try and change the router ip at: ipconfig -> wan & lan
    scroll down to IP Address:
and change it into like... 192.168.2.1 and save it
the router will ask most likely if you want to change the dhcp settings too... click YES or OK, just do it

Put the asus in access point mode via the web interface.

I think asus router have the same ip as adsl modem.
Change ip of asus router to 192.168.2.1.

    Thanks for your replies.

I can offer the following updates:

Lesiuk & WPTE - the ip addresses appear to be different already. When the router is plugged in to the PC it is accessed via 192.168.1.1 whilst when the modem is plugged in to the PC I access it via 10.0.0.1 so I assume that having the same IP address is ruled out?

Avberk - I tried swapping the router to access point but when it rebooted I could no longer access it via the ip address above.

When I go to the status screen within the router setup it shows the internet as being "disconnected", even though all the correct lights are on the modem.

I was wondering if it's perhaps a firewall issue as both bit of kit appear to act as firewalls?

Your problem is that the router and the asus are not in the same IP range.

You have to give your devices similar ip adresses.

-Verify there is only one dhcp server active on your network. (probably switch off dhcp on the asus)

-I suggest you set your asus to 10.0.0.2 in access point mode.

-Verify that you don't have duplicate ip addresses. If you have, change the dhcp pool on your router to start at a higher number. e.g. 10.0.0.50
