and what is the result if you use the 'df' command under linux?
Hi!
Finally I attached HDD to my router. Before that I created one big ext3 partition (HDD 250Gb available about 225Gb) under PQmagic. During creation I had no choose for cluster size (4Kb). But I thought default size is ok.
Then I've uploaded some files to new drive. Accidentally one of uploaded folder contained a lot of small GIFs files (about 4-5Kb each). Real folder size is about 860KB. Please note KB! But when I saw how much drive space it took I couldn't say a word... about 840MB. It's 1000 times more. I realized it can happen when cluster is big (e.g. 64KB) and we will put a lot of small (e.g 4KB) files. But this partition has 4KB cluster. So why it happen?
and what is the result if you use the 'df' command under linux?
Yes. I tried this command after I posted my first post.
df command show expected (more real) results.
It's seems like false alarm.
Thanks
It's a bug in Samba, which is solved in version 2.2.3
I guess you are using the standard version in the Oleg firmware which is version 2.0.10
Switch over to the samba2 or samba3 ipkg-package, and the problem is gone..
Thank you for helpfull information.
Indeed I'm using "built-in" Samba.
I am going to install some packages (e.g better FTP server) so I'll install better Samba as well.
Thanks
