Question Asus notebook A2500H WLAN no AES encryption ?

does somebody own a Asus notebook type A2500H or similair (all types with a WL120 card inside 802.11b not g)

    i have this following problem..

    i'm using the driver 3.30.15.0 (17-7-2003)
when selecting WPA-PSK for network verification
i can only select WEP or TKIP

very strange, at my Asus L7000g notebook with a WL100g i can select at that point AES or TKIP

did someone see the same problem?

and offcourse i've setup my router with AES

Not that it will help you much, but i've got ten exactly the same problem with the latest drivers of my Sitecom WL-012 802.11b USB card. The WL-012 has a Prism chipset.

strange.. the wl120 is based upon a Broadcom chipset.. so it's affecting both

i assume that it should be possible to use AES too with 802.11b based stuff, TKIP works but not very well.. it drops it's connection VERY regular

i've had this problem too with another Asus A2500H notebook (production date in December 2003) so it does not seem to be a firmware issue(assuming the've put the newest one in it)

i've seen this text at a few websites:

One way that 802.11i improves on WEP is by throwing out its RC4 encryption algorithm in favor of Rijndael (AES), the U.S. government's official cipher. This requires specialized hardware, which isn't present in older 802.11b gear. Anticipating 802.11i, many newer Wi-Fi cards and APs do include this hardware, but there's no guarantee that they will fully support the standard once it's ratified. Most vendors say their AES-capable hardware will be software-upgradeable to 802.11, though this may involve reflashing the device's CMOS memory, not just installing a new driver.

as far as i understand, i't's a problem that my wl120b card isn't capable of doing wpa

    someone know more about this?

(ehm.. technik ?? is your wl500b capable of doing AES ? that uses the same card)

Well, currently the AES can't be used on WL-500b.
FYI WL-500b/g manual (version v3, page 34) says:

WL500g supports AES and TKIP encryptipon for WPA.
WL500b supports TKIP encryption for WPA.

hmm strange.. that's maybe also the reason why i can't select AES with 802.11b cards at all

does anyone have (positive) experience with TKIP ?

i have TKIP running at another wl500g router and a Asus A2500H notebook, but seems to drop out regular
