I notice you have a 160GB HDD attach to your wl500g with 1.7.5.6CR5.
Do you have HDD spin down problem? If no, which HDD you have?
Than I will go to get the same one...

Cable is not the key, Speed is.
Use 10Mb will fix wan port dead.
If u will not use Oleg's firmware, use 10Mb hub is the only way can do that.
Of course, maybe you could fix your ADSL modem to...

My 500g up about 30 day and work without any problem after add a 10mb hub between ADSL modem.
Before I do that, 500g's wan will dead after few hours or days....

Well, my old SMC AP/Router also use LPR mode, but my HP laserjet and inkjet work very well........

If you ask me why I replace SMC to ASUS?
My SMC hang every 3 day is the major problem.
But...

Besides wan port 100Mb hang; and can't support laser (page)printer with LPR mode.......

New ASUS 1.7.5.6 include "WAN Connection Speed: " option in "IP Config - WAN & LAN" menu.

But even set to 10Mbps half-duplex, the ADSL modem still show 100Mpbs......

Any command in telent could force WAN port into 10Mb/s?
It's more and more difficule to find a 10Mb hub.....

wl-500 can not support most of page printer, like laser.....
line printer maybe will be ok...

I got that message when I just type me host name.
I found it need type full name, like hostname.dyndsn.org...,etc

You can try to reset factory default.
Disconnect Wan cable.
Use your PC connect to LAN port and ping the wl500g by ping 192.168.1.1
It should always have responce even after some days.

Does http://my.router/Main_AdmStatus_Content.asp still work?
