I am using firmware v.1.7.5.9 CR5 and with that I have noticed that the system is case sensitive for the mac addresses. Maybe this also the problem for you.

I guess you are right. Only difference with 500g casing seems to be the labeling "Afterburner Throughput Enhancement" and to me it seems that just this label makes a strange angle to the surface it...

I have read your posting with losts of interest and tried to work it out myself . So, loading the root file system and changing the /init/boot file as describe. It all seems to work fine...
