How do you measure speed? 1 gb in fifteen minutes is approximately 1.1 mb/sec, which is pretty standard on the wl-hdd.

Unfortunately no. The transfer speed is bound to the CPU. Depending on overhead, I do not think you cannot expect more than 2 megabytes/sec (and even that is under optimal conditions).
