Yes, wireless and wired.
If you've lost contact with the wl700ge, use the asus device discovery utility. It has saved me a number of times.
Regrading the reset. All I can say is that I've never lost files from a reset or...
If you change to a static ip address, I think you have to unplug the wl700ge for the ip address change to take affect. I remember a message displayed on the IP config saying that had to be done.
...
Is it responding to pings?
Put it in AP mode with IP address 192.168.1.2 with gateway details set to 192.168.1.1.
Don't see why not, have you tried it, setup dyndns and the relevant port forwarding. etc

What's the error message?

Would there be scope to fine tuning the samba setup defined by the asus firmware? I suppose you need to be an expert on Samba to do this.:o

The 1.0.7.8 custom firmware has mldonkey (optional replacement of download manager) which has alot of support available for using it.
When I went from 1.0.4.6 to 1.0.7.8, all my router settings...
Why do you think it's not working?

Thanks for the info, would you know if this would allow DD-WRT as well?
LK
If you have hdd spin down enabled, then you would have to have S.M.A.R.T. disabled and so no health info is available.
I'm assuming you're using kfurge's custom firmware?
LK
So far, so good! Thanks for the great custom firmware, KC.

You need to post what you have done so far and what the error messages are.

Sounds like you just want the 700g to be in access point mode? You can then have samba working on the "WAN".

I think the default spindown instructions in KC's rc.local switchs off SMART. You can't get the HEALTH report without SMART enabled. I think this is because SMART wouldn't let the harddisk spindown...
KC,
I know you're working on a feature rich version of the firmware, but as this will take some time, will you be releasing a "rc.local" version of the 1.0.7.8 firmware?
Thanks,
LK
Is there telnet access by default?
