Port forwarding to an internal ip does not work

I have set up a virtual server rule to forward a port to an internal ip, but it is not working. Other rules which are just forwarding to a port on the router itself are working. So this leads me to the question if it is at all possible to port forward to an internal ip pc? Also, how can I log if the firewall is blocking access on the particular port?
