Where it says "file system ok" it already has said twice that the file system needed checking. Is that the linux alternative for Microsofts scandisk?

Hmmm
Under linux the File system driver says the partition needs checking after a couple of time even if no error was detekted, i think they use that system as its the usual linux way to determine if a check is needet. so, dont mind if he says something it can be just a fault-warning.
I dont know why they use ext2 fileystem, this is quite alergic in case of a power-off while write. ext3 would be better.
Linux uses e2fsck for integrity checks, yep thats like scandisk.
Please, could you try again the "dmesg" ??
Tried dmesg again, no crash this time but still no output.
Ok, since Oleg is not here ...
"cat /dev/mtd/1 > /tmp/harddisk/part1/flash.bin"
Should give you after some secounds of waiting a file flash.bin on the first partition where you can download it, including the file system and stuff. can you try ? Maybe asus stock firmware has no dmesg, so this is not working.
Read carefully! Surrounding brackets are very important! Otherwise it will not work!Quote:

If I download the firmware, I assume this will not include my passwords and wep settings?
And has anyone else bought this thing or will I be the only one on the forum?
Yes, these settings are stored separately - don't worry.Quote:

Is there a custumized Firmware to login via telnet (the backdoor works) and is it possible to mount a USB-Stick directly? I woud like to act the WL-HDD beside the WL-Functions, as a NFS-Server (nfsv3) over LAN to record from a german 'DBox' (DVB-Receiver with Linux and ethernet). Do you think that's possible?
