With the newest Asus Firmware you can access the Cam on its own Port without Passwort, right. Just set it all in the web interface.
What do you setup as ip address ?Quote:

Hi
Iīm looking foor a webcam that works with wl-500g usb plug-share. Whatīs the best im your opinion? My Objective is monitor my office.
Another quastion, if I choose a wireless webcam, i will have problems with de wl-500g interface? I can works with a wireless webcam/securitycam via internet without a PC plugged on, only using with the wl-500g webcam Remote Monitor Settings?
Thanks
I have no idea what you exactly mean by wireless camera and the wl500g
if you use a -standalone- wireless IP camera, you don't need the wl500g for the camera functions
if you can please tell me where I can buy one
i've no idea about the UK market...Quote:

should work 500g with more webcams connected throught usb hub to one 500g?
USB 1.1 bandwidth is too low to handle more than one webcam.
i don't think so. there is high compression and small images. ok. 500gx has usb 2.0 ports. will it be possible use more webcams on one 500g(x)?Quote:

we have installed the latest firmware(1.9.2.7-1) of oleg.
attached usb stick (EXT3); booted from usb stick.
Our Philips Vesta Pro 680 dont function aynmore after boot via usb.
On boot via embedded memory it functions again.
After further investigations we found out that (via /tmp/syslog) no pwc
module is loaded if booted via usb stick. so we ran a 'insmod pwc.o' and
the module was loaded - but no function of the webcam website. however syslog said it was loaded properly, and also a 'lsmod'. memory stick was in readwrite mode as well.
whats the problem here? is there a webcam daemon which we can start or something similiar?

midgard
When rootfs is enabled, hotplug events occures before their processing is started, so you've either to replug your cam, or start things manually.
thanks oleg... you are right. while the router was running we reconnected the webcam and it was working. however this is not what we want... i then added the line for loading the pwc module to the post-init script in /usr/local/sbin.
Now i think that i only have to start the rcamd. Do you know the exact command what hotplug runs on device plugin? i then would add this command (after checking that the camera is there) to the post-inst script.
thanks in advance
midgard
try launching rcamd_main, it should load modules and launch rcamd with correct args.
thanks oleg... i tried... but it dont works. tried with/without loading pwc. the program i loaded was rcamdmain and it does nothing. it should spawn an httpd process and 3 additional rcamd on start (this happens if i do a reconnect of the cam). i now try to download the source to figure out the best way. it will take a while now, but i hope i figure out the way how to do it....
best regards,
midgard
Hi,
i have connect this Cam on my 500g. Mode acticex&refresh, OV511 2.10 and 320x240. When i hit Preview, a new Broqserwidow is open, but no picture is shown. "Image is not ready"
Is this Cam compatible to my router? What can i do?
Thanxx
It looks like this is not an OV51x based cam, nor PWC. So it's not supported.

Revert back to 1.7.5.6?

Did you plug in an external harddrive as well? Was that connected before as well?
If you connect just the cam, no usb hub or drive, does it work then?
*shame*
without HUB it works.
Thanks!
edit:
the cam is not mine and at last testing I use 1.7.9.6 and a other HUB. :D
No problem, glad to be of service :)
The issue probably is that you're using a passive hub now (without power supply) and that the sum of the cam+hub+drive asks to much power. If you replace it with a powered hub there shouldn't be a problem AFAIK.
The funny think is that the other HUB (previous uses) is also passiv. :D
Hello,
I would like to buy a webcam to interface with a WL500g.
From what I've seen the imagem quality on most (usb) webcams is quite low..
So, do you have any sugestions for a webcam that has a good image quality?
thanks.
ps: if you can, please post a sample shot from your webcam... :)
It's all about price vs performance :) I use Phillips ToUCam (do not remember exact model number) together with pwc drivers version 9 - this allows 640x480 resolution. framerate is set to 2 fps, since I use it with motion software as motion detector. FW used is Oleg's 1.9.2.7 CR4.Quote:

Thanks for your reply!
today I went shopping to a outlet shop and found some cheap (and old!) webcams from intel at only 9,99eur... (did't buy it... )
It was a IntelŪ Play™ Me2Cam* Computer Video Camera
http://support.intel.com/support/intelplay/me2cam/
http://www.qbik.ch/usb/devices/showdev.php?id=294
apparently it should work in linux with the ov511 linux driver...
I,
I bought a webcam (IntelŪ Play™ Me2Cam) and it is working in the WL500g with both drivers (at 320x200 only), but the image has some small black lines in it. please take a look at the sample:
(If I connect the webcam to a pc, I get clean image without any of these lines )
what's wrong?
thanks.
anyone?!? :(
Hi,
I've try a webcam on my wl500g , it's work fine with lan , but through WAN it's don't work
does in need to redirect the port 7776 and the 7777 ?
I use the 1.9.3.5 firmware maybe i need downgrade the firmware ?
Thanks for help
Have you made the webcam visible on the WAN? Because it's not by default.
yes I've changed LAN only to LAN and WAN
I have the exact same problem.
My webcam is philips pcvc840k, works perfectly in lan/wlan.
But from wan, it's not working. Using the same PC / Client, I get a black videoimage and the errormessage "Cannot connect to server". If I press the option "refresh" I get still pictures from the webcam that refreshes every 3 seconds, but only in black/white and not streaming video.
I have tried to searched the forum, but it seems that there is no spesific answer to solve this problem.
firmware: 1.9.2.7
is trying to log on from wan by:
http://externalip:7776/ShowWebCam.asp
http://externalip/Advanced_ShowTime_Widzard.asp
i have these settings
lan/wan
activex only (have tried activex and refresh) didn't help.
pwc 8.8
320x240
httport: 7776
activex port: 7777
I'm not an expert on this. But is there any better firmware to solve this?
me2cam did i me too - did you meet mistake: "couldnīt create socket" too?
no.Quote:

Hello,
after reading almost all articles I think I still don't know how to do this.
To my configuration:
At DSL, I have a Netgear Router (not WLAN) which routes from 192.168.0.1 to two Asus WLan router: a 500g (192.168.0.11 -> 192.168.10.1) and a 500gx (192.168.0.22 -> 192.168.30.1).
The interesting part ist the 500gx. I there have already sucessfully connected a Linksys Printer router via WDS (192.168.30.56).
What I now wanted to do is connecting a separate ASUS 500g via WDS to the 500gx and connect it with a webcam, so this webcam can be available with in the LAN but also probable from outside.
I use the latest firmware from Oleg (thanks!) and have switched (unfortunately) from WPA to WEP encryption.
But the word is HOW ?
How can I connect this new 500g to the 500gx and what parameters do I have to set where ????
I would be very grateful if anybody has an idea and can help somehow !!!
Thanks,
Matthias
did you already consult the manual for WDS configuration? if so, what did you already configure
