there isn't even a link on ebay, so why is it available in romania, russia and portugal?

have a look in the wikipedia :)
One key question is that whether this router uses BCM4718 or BCM4716. With BCM4718, it is possible to have third party firmware (really hoping oleg can create one for us) to support dual band wireless N. On the other hand, with BCM4716, it only supports 2.4Ghz band.
/proc/cpuinfo indicates the chip is BCM4716, and the name of this router, RT-N16 seems to point to BCM4716 being used. However, there are photos with BCM4718. Furthermore, according to a Chinese web site, http://neture.homeip.net/digiland/vi...php?id=882&p=1, the CPU is actually BCM4718, but Broadcom tag the BCM ID to 4716. Also, the page pointed out that BCM4716 does not support USB ports.
So unless Asus put in a VIA USB chip (or a USB management chip of some sort), BCM4718 seems to be a more logical choice (well, everyone prefers BCM4718). Furthermore, BCM4718 and BCM4716 have different pin count (so you cannot just replace BCM4718 with BCM4716 without some re-arrangement of the board).
The only real way to tell is to open the router... Not sure anyone would be willing to do that though.
I really hope BCM4718's ID is incorrectly tagged so /proc/cpuinfo reports BCM4716. However, even if Asus did put in BCM4718, we still need a guru like oleg to enable dual band wireless N.
just got my own rt-n16...
and it's quite good so far, alltough I think the firmware can be improved:p

and yes the download master still uses rtorrent to download torrents, still rather slow than normal... BUT faster than the wl-500 series.PHP Code:PID Uid VSZ Stat Command

disk speeds I tested so far with a 6GB SD card (with 20/15 mb/s speeds)
all under windows 7 64bit final version, ftp and samba didn't differ in speed... ftp was usually worse than samba.

QoS should be turned off because it just kills your speed on anything...
to make it "off" just don't use it, completely empty all settings... kinda fail from asus :p
Can someone measure the actual power consumption of the RTN16?
I am interested in how much more it consumes than a wl500gp. The wl500gp consumes about 7 watt...
I just ordered mine through Newegg for $99USD shipped (they sold out within 24 hours of having them!).
Could you please do aplz?Code:cat /proc/cpuinfo
also perhaps aandCode:wl bands

First thing I do when I get it is flash with DD-WRT mini-asus.trx (2.4 kernal) and backup the CFE to send to the devs.
I'm so glad it has a JTAG on it!

they probably gave the cpu a different tag... since the bord looks exactly the same as on the pictures in post 1, as far as I could see trough the holes.
which means there is no extra chip for usb, so it must be a BCM4718... unless I overlooked the via chip:p

Has anyone that's received one of these routers tried to upload DD-WRT mini-asus.trx through the FW restoration Utility? This will allow you to run a Busybox shell so we can get more info for the dev's...
Hell, I tink OpenWRT has the 2.6 kernel FW's for this unit..?
neither works for me lly:confused:
I'm just using the Main_AdmStatus_Content.asp page to execute commands:p
and I'm not going to upload any other firmware than oleg... especially not when there are no positive results out there for this router.;)
I'm not trying to make you rush lly, just keep on going:p;)
Sorry, I forgot that original firmware doesn't has "dd" command. Just useAnyway, I has this image already :pCode:cat /dev/mtd0 >/tmp/cfe.bin
btw., Some people who can't want wait our release, opens telnet in original FW - RT-N16 + telnet (automatic translate from Russian)
thanks lly, I love telenet:p
here another mirror from me: http://wpte.kicks-ass.net/downloads....download_id=12
no waiting for that one ;)
anyway, the long awaited code::cool:

This command sends an ICMP ECHO message to a remote host and waits for
a reply. The network interface must be configured and operational for
this command to work. If the interface is configured for loopback mode
the packet will be sent through the network interface, so this command
can be used for a simple network test.
This command loads an executable file into memory, but does not
execute it. It can be used for loading data files, overlays or
other programs needed before the 'boot' command is used. By

just want to note something...
samba uses about 10% cpu per megabyte per second
and right now it's only using 10%... kinda under optimized imo:p
lly, is there going to be EXT4 support? the faster, safer format?:p
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ext4Quote:
EXT4 introduces Extents to replace the block mapping scheme used on earlier generations of the extended file-system, persistent pre-allocation, delayed allocation, precision timestamps, and journal check summing.
things like this:
it should be possible in the Linux 2.6.28 kernel... and since the router has 2.6 drivers now;)Quote:
An extent is a range of contiguous physical blocks, improving large file performance and reducing fragmentation.
just check out the graphs from page 2 to page 8: http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?pag...nchmarks&num=2
overall EXT4 is significantly faster according to these benchmarks:)
uhm... how do you mean fall deeply down into backports?
the EXT4 support is added in kernel 2.6.28 and will have support in later kernels, so there is no need for backporting?
OR do you mean you want to add the same functionality to the WL-500 series as with the RT-N series?
sounds good:)
but there is a slight chance EXT4 will be included then?:p
Lookin good guys...Only 3 more days til mine arrives.
BTW, I have the official FCC page on the router, confirming that it is not dual band, along with bench tests and high res pictures;
https://fjallfoss.fcc.gov/oetcf/eas/...%27MSQRTN16%27
Dual band will not be possible. The device only has one radio and uses 16 pin amps:
http://www.sige.com/uploads/briefs/D...ep-10-2008.pdf
So has anyone tried to upload a build yet? Remember, there is a serial connection and JTAG pinouts on the mobo. DL the firmware with telnet, backup your CFE file ;)
I gotta wait 3 days for mine...
There's a small review with performance charts here. I'm a bit disappointed, I expected much better routing and wireless performance - now there's a Zyxel NBG-460N at my home for testing purposes, less features but more then 400MBit/sec routing and 110 MBps real wireless speed.
Can someone confirm if these speeds mentoined in the article above are the limit of this device? Now my ISP provides 120 MBps, this router may be the bottleneck after the next speedincrease....
