I used to run transmission.cgi in lighttpd. But right now it's giving me a internal 500 error (this is due to the fact that I'm messing with the cgi-parser which is used for lighttpd in order to get another application running, but when I revert to the original settings I was using for the cgi-parsing it will run again.)
I've never experienced a 'hang' when I was using this method.
But I have to say, these experiences are from the -8 firmware. I haven't downloaded anything besides a test if it would download anything (which it did) with the -10 firmware
I've tried your settings from the tutoria 'Starting samba with xinetd' (10a) with the whole netbios thing, but this screwed up my samba. Samba wasn't running anymore, so I removed this netbios stuff, rebooted, and samba did run again.

my /opt/etc/xinetd.d/vsftp file looks almost like it.. but not 100% :D will fix this.
my /opt/etc/vsftpd.conf is the same except for the last line. (macsat recommends to put a chroot there )
So I will take a look tonight (don't have the SSH port open from the outside, someone tried to hack SSH, so I closed the port, don't need it as much) when I'm homeCode:secure_chroot_dir=/opt/usr/share/empty

To me, this is like the last hurdle I've to take in order to be as satisfied with -10 as I was with -8 (or maybe even more.. really good that the data is much safer to reboots and stops now)
(and I also want to make a new headstart image, due to the fact that a lot has changed and I've found some great new apps which are usefull in headstart)
