got myself one of those USB fans to cool myself during summer when I sit somewhere with a notebook... then I got another idea, how to cool my wl700GE! :-)

i just changed my old 160gig hitashi to a bigger and hot as hell maxtor, here is the result:

Out of the box the max runs at 52º and the stock hit runs at 33º :S

Hey dude, that's so cool i think i might do the same, how much power are you supplying to the small little fan? i wanted to see if you can provide the image of where you would Solder at? that would be great thank you!

it should be possible to attach a 12v fan and let it run on 6v only..would that
kill the sound of the fan? and still run smooth and keep the hdd cool? i was thinking of changing the hdd to a laptop version caus i have the cable for it
and a 120gb laptop hdd doing nothing...
