This may be related to a lot of the problems people are having and I would love to know the answer to it.

On 2 of my Windows XP machines (SP2) when I use the ASUS print setup wizard to add an HP Photosmart printer every goes smoothly and I an NOT prompted to add a new port. However on 1 of my machines, when I go through the wizard it prompts me to add a new TCP/IP port. When I use the generic network interface setting, port 9101 it doesn't work.

It seems to me that whatever the ASUS 'Remote Port' definition is seems to work, but for some reason 1 of my machines will not install/build that port and I am stuck using the TCP/IP port.

Has anybody else seen this? Do you know a workaround? It seems without the 'Remote Port' definition XP just doesn't want to know.

Thanks in advance,
Jim.

Just check the manual that came with the router (on the cdrom, e500_router_manual.pdf) and go to chapter 3; setup LPR client under windows XP. It's very straighforward and worked for me in a jiffy.

Good luck

;) Thanks that worked a treat! I'm curious why sometimes the installation automatically does it and other times it doesn't, but I'm not complaining.

Cheers,
Jim
