Hi...

I have my modem connected to my router in bridge mode.

Modem IP= 192.168.1.11
WL-500gp Router IP: 192.168.1.1

my router has original firmware.


what to do please?

well, I've Oleg's firmware (if this is important). I set IP config -> WAN & LAN -> WAN IP setting: IP address: 192.168.2.254, Subnet:255.255.255.0 and IP address of ADSL modem (in bridge mode) as 192.168.2.1 . And voila, I see my ADSL modem through wl500g @ 192.168.2.1 I was really astonished :)

Can someone make this clearer for me. My connection to the internet via adsl modem is working fine but I can't access the modem config page via my wl500gx. (I have to attach the modem direct to my PC ethernet port to configure it.)

Operation Mode = Home Gateway
Modem is 192.168.1.254
WL500GX is 192.168.1.1

WAN & LAN Settings are:

WAN Connection Type: Automatic
WAN Connection Speed: Auto negotiation

Get DNS Server automatically? yes
Enable PPPoE Relay? no

IP Address: 192.168.1.1
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Status page shows:

WAN Type: Automatic IP
IP Address: 192.168.1.64
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Gateway: 192.168.1.254
DNS Servers: 192.168.1.254
Link Status: Connected

LAN Interface
IP Address: 192.168.1.1
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway 192.168.1.1


My AXIS printserver (192.168.1.9) is attached to LAN and I can reach it's config page without a problem.

Am I getting close to having this correctly set up? Can anyone please advise?

Actually, just follow my post above.

WAN (strictly speaking, MAN) and LAN are different subnets.
In your case:
Modem is 192.168.1.254
WL500GX is 192.168.1.1
both modem and router are in the same subnet => result is negative.

Thanks. I tried that (I think) and I don't see my modem on 192.168.1.254 through the ASUS. (Although I do if I connect directly from PC to modem.) What am I doing wrong? What does 'IP address of ADSL modem (in bridge mode) as 192.168.2.1' mean? What could be blocking my access but allowing internet traffic to flow?

Also I forgot....If I connect modem to a lan port rather than wan then I get to the modem config on 192.168.1.254 but the internet access does not work.

Do you mean that you have no setting in the modem's web interface for the LAN IP?

Strictly speaking I have ADSL router which works in the bridge mode. However, to the best of my knowledge in ADSL modems usually can be set up local ip address (sometimes it is called management IP). It should be 192.168.X.Y, where 1 < Y < 254, and X is not 1.
