Samba not working?

Hi!

I flashed my wl500gp with olegs latest fw and am following the tutorial by marcnesium (http://wl500g.info/showthread.php?t=5909)
When I use \\192.168.1.1\smbshare in explorer it can't connect.

So i did the follow up by r0kanon (http://wl500g.info/showthread.php?t=6222)
Still.... I can't connect.

I am totally new at linux and have no idea how to start or what to do to start troubleshooting on the box. When I PS I do not see anything resembling characters samba or smb etcetera running in memory.

I would really like to be able to use the disk attached to the box as a means of backup, can anyone help me out please?

Also, I am wondering.... I thought drive spindown should occur after the flash to olegs FW, but as far as I can tell the drive keeps on spinning during the whole night. What's wrong?

Any help will be greatly appreciated!

edit: the router did show up under network neighbourhood when using the standard asus fw, but there were access problems continuously. What services do need to be running on XP in order to be able to see the box as it is configured now?

How do I clear everything so I can try to set it up from scratch again? I tried flashing the firmware with the same file, but the files and content I have created for those files is still there in the 32MB of memory of the router.

Well, flashed back to the original asus firmware and then back to oleg. Same problem. Then I pushed the button on the back with a pencil for some time again and reconfigured. Did the tutorial again and now samba works.
