will a SSD be faster or will IDE be a bottel neck? These new drives are able to take much more abuse and have much longer lives than spinning disks and speed is great if hardware can handle.

Unfortunately no. The transfer speed is bound to the CPU. Depending on overhead, I do not think you cannot expect more than 2 megabytes/sec (and even that is under optimal conditions).

Thanks! I thought so. when the ssd prices go down i am going to get one, I use it when i travel and want the stabiltiy
